  • Gameplay: 7/10 - Game so good you ignore the gameplay flaws.
  • Design: 8/10 - The game world really feels alive and lived in.
  • Story: 3/10 - Devs rarely post story updates in game.

BUT NAH, I'LL PASS
The hardest part about publishers enforcing horrible EULA is that it's really hard to explain to regular people WHY I'm suddenly going to stop playing a game - to them it's "one day of using an annoying Sony Website" and "doesn't cost anything extra".
It's honestly wild that this game can run perfectly fine when you cut off the PSN network entirely, and has since launch.

Honestly, they can't even say they didn't warn us, game has had "requires PSN account to play" written on the Store page since launch - it's partly my fault for looking a gift horse in the mouth when I found out you could just NOT do that.
Ah well.

A pretty decent fighter with a ton of crowdfunded content paid for by fans (some of which now removed), marred even further by pretty horrible management and PR relations recently.
I don't support companies that loathe their customers, regardless of why that is.

Scott inspired me.

...to actually try a quad shot macchiato with irish cream.
Next time I meet him, I need to tell him his new name is Steve, that's way easier to remember.

  • Gameplay: 7/10 (Fallout 4, refined)
  • Design: 7/10 (pretty, sometimes clunky)
  • Story: 5/10 (it's the kind of game where you want to skip dialogue to level)

Mechanically Fallout 4 but
You get to play dress up [✔]
Building Sanctuary towns now comes with a large quantity of vanity furniture [✔]
PLUS a vendor to earn profit from trash, junk and treasure alike [✔]

Downsides:
You're incentivized to join groups who just do the "current" thing for bonuses or daily quests, by default there is a popup anytime a public group is created for doing things like "daily ops", with a listed bonus for joining.
While they can easily be ignored for a more traditional Fallout questing experience, that does not seem to be the point, nor the appeal, this game intended for.
I personally found peace turning those notifications off and waiting for friends to come online.

All in all, great fun for joining up with friends and blasting ghouls side by side, and a good amount of content being added to the game over time, it's still a good time and an easy way to get lost in this new chapter of the modern Fallout Universe.

At the end of the day, this game can be played however you and your friends decide to:
Quest and take things slow, reading all the logs and talking with NPC's, or speedrun content for drops and loot, to turn for profit on the market - it's honestly up to each user to engage with the game however they want, the fact there are multiple ways to engage with this game is likely the claim that will give it more life in the years yet to come.

Base game cost $3.99 on sale and thats cheaper than some sleeping assist apps on mobile stores.
Gorgeous sound design, addictive score based gameplay and amazing vistas.
The camera button is my second most used hotkey behind binoculars.

I Have No Idea What's Going On
But this has been a great two hours, none the less.

This game definitely has a mood about it, and I'm not sure what the backstory is telling me or wants to convey - both a sense of greatness in accomplishments and yet a devastation of some cataclysmic event?

What the backstory leaves open to interpretation, the gameplay definitely picks up on - and the story of your adventure across the lands takes the front stage to the implied background art and the scale of devastation.

You manage a car ..boat - thing.
There are a couple of things to do in the boat.
The core mechanic - push the engine button to make the boat move forward.

You quickly learn that this has a cascading effect in several ways - managing fuel? Easy.
Then quickly it becomes apparent that there's added steps beyond that, steps that are introduced over time to an ever more complicated set of inputs to maintain.

To avoid too many spoilers, I'll leave the gameplay at that, but there are times where having so many things to manage and maintain become overwhelming even for the most comfortable of pilots.

The core game explores your method of interacting with the world as the basis of telling its story.
As you keep moving, you stop at places to pick up fuel, you drive past factories and buildings and ruins, occasionally stopped by certain obstacles that interrupt your progression, usually marked by a simple puzzle or exploration of the world in some way.

On my first playthrough, I got stuck in two places - once for simply not understanding what the game was asking, the second because I was being introduced to a mechanic I didn't know existed.
Besides those incidents, this game can be beat from start to credits in about two hours, although achievement hunting will take up to 10 total.

In The End
I don't often see many games that give you such a complete package in such a compact form these days, and especially without feeling like the gameplay has been watered down for the presentation.
This gives you both a challenging set of mechanics, with the beautiful adventure to boot.

An awesome card game that contains bird trivia, beautiful music, gorgeous art, and the entire game of Wingspan as seen on Tabletop Simulator and sold on store shelves.

If you're familiar with the board game, 'automata' has you covered, and is included in here as well,
while also offering the standard ''VS AI'' mode, that gives you a single player experience against ''other players'' who have to follow the rules.
Also with a online mode for those who want to play against real people

but honestly, no matter what kind of challenge you're looking for, this game is such an awesome laid back experience for anyone looking to relax with some bird sounds

Spookiest card game I've ever played
I can't believe that the cabin literally doesn't even have a bathroom.
And then the build up to the final boss has to be the most intimidating thing ever only to accidentally be over immediately
Also! The cabin has so many secrets all over the place! there's even this really cool thing you can do with the globe - if you click it, it spins!

TL;DR
doesn't even open anymore, just bugsplat.
I put 100 hours into this game, and while this is definitely a downgrade from other Project Cars titles, it was by no means the worst simcade racer I've played.

It tried pleasing too many different types of racers, and just ended up disappointing everyone:
  • Career mode
    - but it's just a checklist of different cars and tracks, no sense of progression.
  • Economy
    - but money is tied to leveling up instead of tourney wins?
  • personal garage
    - I see no downside here, personalized cars is almost always a positive, BUT-
  • upgrades
    - no cosmetic upgrades or modifications makes it feel a little bit sad, and perf upgrades mostly muddle things in the gameplay.

This was all capped off with their "most accessible" driving yet, and while the game still does have the usual "project cars" skill ceiling, catering to lower standards of driving is only ever going to annoy people in this already niche genre of gaming.

Either go hard arcade and make it FUN or just admit you're developing games for a niche market and can't compete with Need for Speed sales or numbers.
If there is a perfect balance between sim and arcade, this ain't it.
