My favourite racing game of all time.

Played this countless of times on my PS2 and it´s still super fun now. Playing this together with friends was always one of the most enjoyable things to do as a kid.

Features:
- A good variety of tracks located in different areas (Forrest, Desert, Town...)with some hidden paths and jumps

- A Carreer mode with 3 different leagues (Derby, Rally, Street racing)

- Lots of cars for each Racing group, which all suit different driving styles and are all tunable
(though not optically, except the colour)

- Some of the best car destruction you can find

- Bonus challenges like Derby Arenas or Events that require you to launch the driver out of the car to perform certain things like hit bowling pins or fly through burning hoops

- multiplayer racing and a party mode (this bit may not work on Pc, since the servers seem to be down, but there are probably some ways around this like Lan play. PS2 splittscreen is great though.)
Edit: There is a Guide to get the multiplayer to work (thanks to B Dawg for pointing that out for me)

- A great Soundtrack with songs from Rob Zombie, Yellowcard, Audioslave, Wolfmother and many more. (Yes, there are also 2 songs from Nickelback, but they aren´t that bad. "Flat on the Floor" is actually pretty ok and quite short and "Believe it or not" is just meh)

This game is an absolute blast to play and whilst the AI may not be the most advanced and feel quite easy to beat (especially with late game cars), it´s still a lot of fun. The physics can be a bit janky at times, mainly when you screw up a jump and sometimes there are objects stuck in the air, but nothing that feels game breaking and for the most part it´s well polished. The car destruction is still awesome and even a good amount of environmental objects have damage states (though they are more basic).
Nitro can be gained in multiple different ways like jumping, ramming other cars or destroying stuff on the track, this leads to tons of junk, metal parts rocks and other stuff flying across the track which looks pretty neat, but can also be dangerous for obvious reasons.
The cars Handling is another great thing about this game. You can usually tell how they feel by looking at them and their stats. You´ve got light smol cars like Chili (based on the Renault 5/Le) or the CTR (based on the Honda CR-X) which focus on quick acceleration and easy, direct steering. Then there are the muscle cars like Boxer (based roughly on a 70´s Plymouth Duster) or Scorpion (roughly based on multiple different muscle cars by Ford from the 60´s and 70´s, also has a derby version called Shaker), which are heavy and accelerate slowly, but have high top speeds and good drifting capabilities. There are also 4wd cars, mainly pickups like Roamer (based on the 70's Chevrolet C10) or Nevada (seemingly a 1994 Ford Ranger) which are heavy and with slightly higher acceleration than a muscle car and higher top speeds than the smol cars they kind of fall in between these two sorts of car. There are some exceptions.
Before you buy a car or before selecting it in your garage you can test it on a little track with jumps and small test courses.

There are also a bunch of cheat codes which unlock new cars for the multiplayer or the single race or single stunt mode.

Cheat-codes:
  • ELPUEBLO - Unlocks the El Diablo
  • GIEVCARPLZ - Unlocks a School Bus
  • RAIDERS - Unlocks the Big Rig
  • KALJAKOPPA - Unlocks the Rocket
  • RUTTO - Unlocks the Pimpster
  • WOTKINS - Unlocks the Flat Mobile
  • GIEVEPIX - Unlocks all cars (and 1,000,000 credits)
  • GIVECASH - 1,000,000 credits
