All in all, BPM is a unique twist to the retro shooters which the hardcore fans would absolutely enjoy. Within the first thirty seconds of the game, you would start enjoying it and you would get hooked so fast, that you won’t stop unless you have died countless times to the higher up bosses or the enemy waves. There is nothing to complain about in this game from my side, hence the full scores. Procedurally created dungeons with endless replayability make it a solid recommendation from my side.

Rating - 10/10

Early Access Review
EASTERN EXORCIST: 2-D SEKIRO IN DISGUISE

I have been a massive fan of Sekiro: Shadows die twice. To see a similar theme in a 2-D side-scrolling action RPG game is just icing on the cake. This is the Review of Eastern Exorcist (Early Access on steam) developed by Wildfire Games and Published by bilibili.

EVIL SPIRITS, DEMONS, AND GODS EVERYWHERE

Set in an eastern fantasy world, you play as an exorcist who fights through chaotic evil while going through different regions/areas experiencing the different stories of joy and sorrow. From my playthrough, all I can say is there is very little joy here and most of the sorrow and how people who get succumbed to evil schemes and tactics plagiarize the world around them and they would do anything to see their plans succeed.

I mentioned how Eastern Exorcist feels like a 2-D Sekiro game, and it does to an extent. You get power orbs as you keep killing enemies, which you can use to level up your character. You can only increase your health and attack power in the character level up screen and nothing else and they level up together at a fixed amount with the need of increasing power orbs every time you level up.

GAMEPLAY & GRAPHICS

The combat is fast and fluid, the hit animations and registry of the hit on enemies is spot on. For an early access game, this feels likes a totally finished game in terms of gameplay. The UI is simple with a health bar and stamina on both sides and your abilities in between them. There is only one weapon, the sword, with which you will be doing your entire playthrough and also with your various abilities.

Eastern Exorcist boosts a near-perfect dodge and counter system which works really well and even awards players with extra mana if timed correctly which helps in powering up your abilities. Each and every ability is unique and you get them by defeating certain enemies/bosses and they all require a certain amount of mana to perform. Perfect Dodging will consume 0 mana, hence if you are someone who is good at dodging in souls-like games, would have no problem using abilities at all times.

Shrines are scattered throughout the entire game and you can teleport easily between them without any cost to power. Here you can level up your character or Excess Replenishment (buy healing portions) or do challenge quests and get rewarded with power orbs and much more.

Enemies and bosses need to be dispelled by pressing RT on the controller when they are on their last breath, else they would respawn back again to full health. Certain abilities work perfectly with Dispel and grants the character unique abilities on top of it which can be customized on the pause screen. Enabling new abilities on the ability tree requires power as well as 1,2 or even 3 blue orbs which you get by exploring the surroundings near you.

The enemy variation in this game is another key factor. Each and every enemy is unique to the area you are visiting and the same goes for the mini and major boss encounters as well. They all have their own unique abilities and attack pattern and none of them feel overwhelming or overpowered. I finished the game on normal difficulty as there are easy and harder options as well and also a New Game + mode as well which unlocks once you finish the main story.

The game right now in its early-access state has three acts, each act occurring in different areas with their own unique levels, enemies, and boss encounters. You will come across a total of 7 new abilities along the way and you can switch between them in real-time by moving the right camera D-pad and use shortcuts to 4 of your favorite abilities. Each ability has its own attack power, range, and mana cost and should be used depending on the situation that it calls for.

Each and every evil boss encounter you come across has an origin story that fills you up as to why the current state of affairs occurred in the first place which gives the fight a proper purpose.

MUSIC & SOUND

The music and soundtrack in this game are dark with drum beats as you would expect during combat, sword attack animation sounds are proper and the cutscenes in the game are well done as it properly explains everything that’s going around the character and the various bosses/enemies involved in the game. Cutscenes are shown in the form of Chinese Opera.

MINOR NITPICKS

My only gripe with the Eastern Exorcist is the game’s three-hour length. But I guess its fine since it is in early access and there will be more levels and character campaigns added later on when the game launches properly in the next three-six months.

The game has no advanced graphical options for now as it only has resolution and full-screen options for now.

Disclaimer: Thanks to Renaissance PR for providing us with an early access steam key.

Conclusion:
Eastern Exorcist does everything well in all aspects of the game including level design, gameplay, combat, abilities, and enemy design but falls short of a mere three-hour-long only campaign for now which would be extended with a new story and character with the final built.

RATING:
9/10

There have been plenty of souls like clones all over the internet lately, which have been nothing but a copy-paste of multiple art styles, combat, or even the weapon UI. Glad to say that Hellpoint is not one of those clones. It is an inspiration taken from Dark souls for sure, but it stands out entirely on its base with proper and profound lore and its world build up.

After several years into its development, Hellpoint finally releases today on Steam and consoles. Special thanks to Tinybuild/Cradle Games for providing me with a key early to do a proper in-depth review.

I always wanted a soul-like game in a futuristic space setting for a long time, and I finally got to experience it. The game feels exactly like dark souls in both combat and visual aid, with its own futuristic/cyberpunk-ish vibes and colors with black contrast to complement its visuals.

Hellpoint is set at a space station called Irid Novo, where you take the role of a 3d printed pawn of your creator whose agenda/scheme is unknown to the player, and you are given full control/freedom to do whatever you want.

Your primary mission is to collect a minimum of 100% of the data by going through different areas and exploring the deep space station and opening up breaches for checkpoints for easier traversal. There are multiple endings in this game and after you have beat it once, you will be taken over to New Game+ where you will have your current arsenal and weapons and would continue with your old knowledge of things to trying out different dialogues/ pathways leading to newer areas or even more unique enemies.

Several boss battles feel easier than the dark souls games, at least the early few enemies are more manageable for those who play RPG/soulslike games a lot. It will be a decent challenge for new players but would get easily adjusted to their attack patterns since most of them have 2-3 unique attacks and skillsets.

The attack animation, the enemy hitboxes, and the boss locations are well thought out with excellent visual fidelity. The entire Irid Novo and the surrounding areas in the space station have their designs and live characteristics, which makes it seem unique in its way.

Hellpoint has its weapon variety, including melee weapons, ranged weapons, and magic weapons. While opening breaches, you will be greeted with the character augmentation screen where you can level up your character in whichever way you please.

Totally worth the price especially if you are a big fan of previous Mega Man games. All the 6 total games with the inclusion of ZCHASER and the extreme and unforgiving difficulty makes it worth owning in your library.

Score : 9.5/10

Resident Evil 3 Remake delivers the best RE Experience till date but its shorter campaign time and almost no extra replayability value apart from buying infinite weapon mods or buffed up offensive/defensive coins in order to make harder difficulty easier makes it a hard sell at the price point of 3499 INR. I would highly recommend that you wait for a sale and then pick this up

DOOM ETERNAL REVIEW – RAZING HELL

DOOM Eternal did something that fans of classical arena shooters were complaining for so many years i.e their need for a new arena shooter single-player campaign experience and id Software finally delivered it.

DOOM Eternal is a direct sequel to the DOOM (2016) and is set two years after the invasion of Demons on Mars. Doomslayer went missing in action as he was teleported in some unknown location while at the same time, the demons invaded the earth and there was no one to defend it. The resistance on earth could only do so much to these demons.

Finally, Doomslayer returned and watched over the demonic activities from his “Doom Fortress” which was his own new control tower and the ship was powered by the AI, Vega who kept giving him the details of what all was happening around him.

It was now time for the Doomslayer to visit Earth and kill demons just like he did on the previous DOOM (2016) and was ready to RAZE HELL once again.

GAMEPLAY:

DOOM Eternal does everything that DOOM (2016) did but better. The game is even more challenging now than ever before with amazing parkour levels with challenging platforming enemy encounters throughout each level.

I started the game on nightmare mode since that is how you should be playing these types of demon-killing no-nonsense type games. To my surprise, the game was even more challenging than DOOM (2016) and in a good way. All the enemy encounters were unique in their own way who had their own unique abilities and talents.

Ammo in DOOM Eternal is scarce at the beginning of the game for the first few levels but later on after few upgrades to your character, getting ammo will not be an issue since glory kills are back along with chainsaw which provides ample health and ammo to keep you going.

DOOM Eternal has few new abilities that they added, one of which is the newly added over the shoulder flame belch which ignites enemies and upon shooting them drops armor for you as you keep shooting them.

Secondly, you have grenades of two different types, one of which is your regular incendiary grenade and the other is ice grenades that freeze enemies at their places while giving you time to run or shoot them all at once with maximum efficiency.

Parkour Style Exploration:

Talking about what’s new in DOOM Eternal are the parkour-style built levels. Each and every level is unique in their own way and varies between different climates and times of the day. Each and every level has easy and harder parkour areas which are really fun while at the same time manages to keep the gameplay pacing equally fast.

There are few newer enemies that need some kind of fix/tweaks in the future patches as they are sometimes unfair in their damage-dealing abilities or get stuck around on the floor/walls of the map. The difficulty of the game can be changed anytime from the menu if you want.

Just like DOOM (2016), there are lots of collectibles to get including the soundtrack, figurines, cheat codes, extra lives and more. There are secret areas which you can get to provide you do proper exploration and reaching some of them requires proper parkour which felt great as well but a bit easier to find this time around.

There are also some new challenges like the Slayer-gates which can be unlocked by finding slayer keys in each level which are also hidden in secret explorable areas.

Performance:

The game runs really well at around 120-140 fps at Ultra settings on an i5- 6600K, GTX 1070 Amp Extreme and 16 gigs of DDR4 RAM clocked at 2666 frequency. The first thing I did obviously was to go check out the game settings before starting the game and setting it to Ultra.

There were better settings than ULTRA but those settings didn’t change the graphics much in my 1080p monitor since I prefer a good balance of frames and graphics, hence ULTRA it was.

Abilities/Upgrades:

Coming to the upgrades, we have a few new things here. Firstly, we have the old ARSENAL/Weapons tab where you would unlock your weapon mods and upgrade them according to your liking.

Secondly, we have the RUNES tab where you can have up to three different runes equipped which will give you efficiency improvements on the battlefield and help you in your fights.

Next, comes the new and improved SUIT tab where you can upgrade your suit abilities and there are five different feature sets and can be upgraded according to your playstyle.

DOOM Eternal was never meant to have a decent story from the start but this time around, the plot is good. You can find a lot of codex entries on your journey and upon reading, you will find plenty of info as to what happened and what all is happening all around you.

GRAPHICS:

Graphics in DOOM Eternal is the best I have seen yet on a DOOM game. Eternal makes 2016 DOOM look average at best. The colors, environment, level design, and proper detailing have been put on by the developers into this game. They have managed to make their best ever DOOM game yet with zero compromises.

UI looks colorful especially if you go to the UI tab in settings and select the DEMON on the dropdown menu. I am not a fan of the default UI in DOOM Eternal as I feel that DOOM (2016) had a better UI.

Each and every level is unique and they all look beautiful. Each and every platform and models have been greatly detailed, the models do not look washed out and the vegetation is proper as well. The Lava on the floor looks close to real as you would expect after playing DOOM (2016).

As I mentioned above, the performance of the game has been solid and the game crashed on me three times total on my 24 hrs of playthrough and I would highly recommend playing with the new Nvidia/ AMD Drivers which gives you the best performance possible for your game.

SOUND:

The soundtrack in DOOM Eternal is simply amazing. We are back to the classic heavy metal style soundtrack which goes with the theme of the game as well.

Every enemy and weapon have their own unique sound which makes it easier to distinguish between them. The same goes for audio codex logs and cutscenes.

BATTLEMODE IN DOOM ETERNAL:

Due to the previous game’s infamous MP sections, this time around id Software added a 2V1 battle mode on the online section. Here you play as either the slayer or as one of the two demons that you can select on whichever kind you wanted. Now the slayer is pitted against both the demons in a 2V1 showdown where both the slayer as well as the demons get to have their own abilities and skills and they have to battle each other out in order to win

Both the demons work together in order to take down the slayer and each match can go up to 5 rounds. Personally, I wanted to have some kind of deathmatch or Team Deathmatch here instead of this mode since after playing for a few rounds, I got easily bored.

On top of this, there were network issues with Bethesda servers not running or my online game got crashed mid-match and such issues existed the next day as well thus diminishing the value of the online experience.

P.S – Thanks to Bethesda and e-xpressgames for sending me the game code for the deluxe edition for this review.

DOOM ETERNAL PC REVIEW:

Story - 8.5/10
Gameplay - 9.5/10
Level Design/ Exploration - 9.5/10
Performance - 10/10
Music And Sound - 10/10
Graphics - 9.5/10
Total: 9.5/10

Conclusion:

DOOM Eternal did what no other game was able to deliver to both the old school arena shooter arcade lover gamers as well as the modern-day and age gamers. From the gameplay to the parkour-style level design and the graphics with the amazing soundtrack, everything about this game screams quality and devotion on the top of its voice. I would highly recommend this game to anyone, even those who have recently started playing games altogether especially right now that everyone is working from home.
