I started playing Warframe in March 2013, and if after 3.5 years and around 2700h, I can clearly say this game is by far the one I've spent the most time and the most money.
I've seen it evolve, becoming bigger and bigger and bigger, creating a lore from scratch (it was almost non existant when I started playing), a complicated and not black and white lore.
The gameplay is repetitive, very, and asks for a lot of farming, but it's core of the game which borrows to H&S. It's on the other hand incredibly fun and you have all interest joining a clan for all the benefit (a lot of stuff) but also because the game is x1000 more fun with friends and vocal chat.

There are a lot of things to do, I mean it really, you'll be probably completely lost at the beginning. So join a clan asap to get as much help you can.

The money part is correct. It's not a P2W (well it's PVE for the most part...), neither a P2Progress even if you'll be tempted considering how time consuming it is to get some stuff. But you don't need to get fùcking everything to enjoy the game.
The only-with-real-money stuff is restricted to cosmetics (and not all, some can be earn other ways), slots for Warframe and Weapons (the most important, use your startings platinum (real money currency) only for that. And some minor things.
Also you can earn platinum just by trading stuff dropped from farming. To the point some people have got everything ingame without spending 1 cent. The only exception is the Prime Acess which includes exclusif stuff ; you can buy it only via the main site with real money. But it's at best 0,01% of the game.

The community is still great, despite its continous growth and the coming of PVP which actracted not the most cheerful players. Still, it's light years away from games like Moba.

So a great game which worth a try. Except if you don't like farming because it's part of it. And don't neglect the lore part, Digital Extremes spends a lot of money and time within, creating cinematic quests which expand it as much as possible, with huge unexpected revelations.
