I don't know if I'll finish this game. It's disappointing - Pillars of Eternity has been on my list of games to play for years, and now... yeah. It's disappointing.

To keep it concise, here are my thoughts in big dot points:

- The combat is terrible. I usually adore terrible combat (Fallout: New Vegas, despite being known for terrible combat, has some of my favourite PvE content in any game) but here it is just soooo sloppy. Even in old Infinity Engine titles I enjoyed this kind of real time CRPG stuff just fine - here, I think there's just way too much of it.

- The story is okay. When I've heard people talk about this game, they've said it's really complicated. It's not, it's just verbose. You know how Fallout 1&2 have really succinct writing? Imagine the exact opposite of that, and the world building and story is also less inspired.

- The backer NPCs suck. The fact that you search "remove POE backer NPC mod" and all you can find is forums of people roasting the OP for asking them to be removed is just lame. Seriously, they are immersion breaking, Tumblrcore original character type ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in an otherwise very stoic, solemn game. I don't want someones cool gang of tricoloured vivisectors standing around under the tree hung with muddy, roped corpses (no hate to Tumblr. I love Tumblr, that was just my way of articulating my ANGER).

There are other negatives. The stronghold is underdeveloped. The world feels dead (but not in the way it should - it feels too static). I'm getting tired of writing about it though.

I think Obsidian just needed to make a more focused experience. Make the game a little less linear, replace some of the combat/lore dumping with characters/quests that make the world that feel more alive. Wish I'd chosen a better game to play while procrastinating my uni work
