I've played OW since launch. I've played daily since 2019. I have a ton of cosmetics and 2k+ hours. I fell out of love with it this year after years of having my hopes built up by Team 4 and then dashed as they cancel all the projects I cared about. I have been huffing industrial levels of copium since 2020. I needed you to understand this before I review Marvel Rivals, because I was deep into my sunk cost fallacy era.

I have played MR for 15 hours so far. That's not much, but enough for me to remember what it's like to actually like the game you're playing. Enough to remember what it's like to get hype about hopping on with the homies. The last two nights I played in a three or four stack with the homies. Everyone is having a blast. We all already have heroes we're in love with. I am 100% a Luna main.

The cons?

- It needs role queue. I'm sick of solo healing five DPS.
- It's new so maps, cosmetics, and heroes are on the slimmer side.
- Iron Fist should be deleted from the game. (Just kidding, but he's like OW1 Doomfist levels of oppressive to strategists)

The pros? (Things it does better than OW)

- The battlepass is inexpensive and doesn't expire at the end of the season.
- The seasonal quest system is a neat bit of lore (good lord does Blizzard ever squander it's incredible lore)
- This game doesn't stop. The action is constant. There are fewer lulls after team fights.
- So far the community is so much less toxic, but I know that will change with time.
- They have a great Discord server for the game and seem genuinely interested in connecting with all fans, not just streamers.

I'll likely update this as things progress, but as it stands now, of all the "OW killers" I've played (and I've played the majority, except for the one Sony made no effort to advertise to the OW community for some reason, that clearly worked super well for them) this is the only one that I believe is actually competition. The rest did not scratch the itch that OW does. Given that I'm Marvel'd the ♥♥♥♥ out as a millennial nerd who has had Marvel IP force fed to me for 20 years, not even being super sick of all these characters has detracted from how much I'm enjoying the game. It could have been any IP. I just wanted to feel joy in playing a hero again.
