What makes it all worth it is that it rewards you every step of the way: your curiosity and willingness to go deeper and deeper, no matter how long it takes, will pay off in the end. The story isn't pretentious or even that complex if you can believe it, but the way it's told is jaw dropping. Even the bad ending is one of the most amazing sequences I've ever experienced in any game.
