UPDATE: its currently nov 2024. the new updates have changed a ton of stuff and its honestly a great game now, i'd buy it if i was you. almost all of my complaints have been addressed. I'll leave the old reveiw up so you can read it if you want, i feel like they saw my review because almost all of it has been handled in some way or another.

only problems i have with the game now is that its still a little bit of a looter shooter, but even thats been changed quite a bit so its not as bad as it used to be to the point im not even really that upset about it anymore.
i only hope that the next release from them has even more "mundane life interactions" like the arcade cabinets and ability to sit at the bar and drink that they added in. my mind goes to the mini-games in GTA where you can play darts or bowling with other characters. and I'd also like to see more fasionware. theres a ton of cyberware in the tabletop that serves no real purpose but it looks cool or performs some kind of party trick, i'd like to have stuff like that in the next game. Also the combat is really fun, and i wish there was somewhere i could go where there was just endless encounters of npc's. a lot of the quests are clearly made for a stealth approach and while thats fun too, sometimes i just wanna dash in with a monosword and paint the walls. and i tend to burn through the random gang spawns in the edge of the city too fast.

Old review below [with update notes]:
---------------------------

so the 2.0 update is out, i still get T posing models, I still get objects through the floor, i still get low poly people, i move faster than the game can load, i cant get out of vehicles because the game hasn't realized ive stopped, and it just now crashed while trying to edit my appearance.
theres some improvements, i no longer see glowing trees and bushes, but its still broken. [fixed as of 2.13 iirc]

---------------------------

Being a fan of Cyberpunk 2020 and 2013 (the predecessor's to 2077) for almost 15 years, I was both excited at the idea of it not being a dead franchise, but also afraid of what kind of retcons and terrible lore changes would come to the series in much the same way as I'm sure most fans of Fallout 1+2 feel about new entries in that series. I expected a very well made video game on CDPR's front, but a terribly butchered Cyberpunk story on Mike Pondsmiths front.

The reality is mostly the opposite.

I love the world, I like the new lore, I think V is an ok character, I've got 200 hours in the game so far and climbing, and I would have every achievement if it wasn't for the vast amount of game breaking bugs I've run into. Which is the biggest issue with 2077, even today, almost 2 years after launch, its still broken. Sure my game doesn't crash to the desktop as often as it used to, but I still encounter entire streets full of the same NPC's, T-posing models, cars exploding randomly, items i cant pick up, quests I cant finish, armor that doesn't work, weapons that do no damage, enemies that teleport, things stuck in the sky, holes in the map where i fall for eternity, the list goes on. i cant go even 20 minutes without seeing something like this wrong, usually its a lot more frequent than that.

And thats ignoring how they lied about content prior to release. Everywhere I look I can see where something was planned to be included but wasnt. The trains dont exist [they do now], I cant call a taxi, i cant smoke, i cant sit down [you can in some places], i cant sit down at a ramen stand and order then eat a meal [you can at some places], i cant go in 99.9% of the buildings on the map , my appearance means nothing and I cant change it down the line [you can now].

A major part of cyberpunk as a game series (I'm talking about the Tabletop RPG's Cyberpunk 2020, and Cyberpunk 2013) is your appearance, its an entire stat in the game. Your clothes, your car, your weapons, and most importanlty your cyberware is all about appearance. there are entire books just listing out bits of chrome your character can get that have no actual function in gameplay. none of that exists in 2077, its just a generic looter shooter. my outfit is irrelevant i just wear whatever has the best stats [they have a wardrobe function now, but yeah sorta true], it does not proclude me from entering certain locations, it does not affect peoples perception of me in conversation, it either has no effect on anything aside from my armor stat or maybe a couple little buffs like i can sneak a little better or negate some shock damage [this is sadly all still true].
The animations to sit down are in the game, its used in cut scenes, the animations and mechanics for riding in a car are there, but i cant call a taxi aside from delamain which i have to drive myself. There are advertisements all over the place for Combat Cab but as far as I can tell thats the entirety of their existence. [also mostly still true afaik]

It also feels empty, its a city to rival modern day NYC but i can run for a couple blocks and find no one outside [mostly fixed]. but most importantly, WHERE THE ♥♥♥♥ IS THE COMBAT ZONE? [its in phantom liberty]
I know where the gate to it is, its in pacifica, but i cant get in. I glitched myself in one time and theres nothing there. huge, major portion of the previous games, and its just non-existant. Thats a huge deal [its Dogtown, DLC added it].
