A tremendous love letter to retro gaming and an amazing value. If this looks at all interesting to you it is a must buy!

Oh and make sure to at least try a few games before deciding you don't like it/get a refund. The variety on display is crazy so there's probably something you will like.

CULTIC is an amazing game. If you enjoy boomer shooters, or hell just shooters in general, I'd highly recommend picking this up. The movement feels great, the visuals are unique (though I understand why they may be a turn off for some), good variety of weapons, great level design with none of them feeling dragged out, copious amount or secrets. I could go on but the two things I love most about this game are the headshots and the music. This has some of the most satisfying headshots of ANY FPS game I've played, not just from the recent wave of indie boomer shooters. It just feels so good whether you're close range with the pistol or even with the lever action rifle popping a melon from halfway across the map. I feel like the music may get overlooked in the long run but the variety of tunes you'll hear in this title, and with the way it changes dynamically as you go through a level is just so damn good. Can't recommend this game enough!

If you like metroidvanias at all, you definitely need to pick up this game. While it has a few rough edges (most of which I'm sure will get fixed anyway) this is a fantastic experience and a fine return to form for Igarashi. I look forward to what he and his team cook up next!

This game is astounding. If you are a fan of run n' gun games such as Contra, Metal Slug, Gunstar Heroes, etc, you owe it to yourself to get this game. Obviously the big draw for Cuphead is its aesthetic and oh man does it nail it. Animation is ridiculously fluid, and with so many details in each boss fight it's pretty easy to miss little things here and there (which is fine because you will die, a LOT). Music is amazing as well, with a jazzy/big band sound that perfectly compliments the frantic nature of the gameplay.

Speaking of gameplay, the controls in Cuphead are some of the tightest I've felt in a run n' gun before. Yes, this game is absolutely difficult, but most of that comes from learning boss patterns and/or you messing up. Very rarely is the game at fault. If you died, you either got too greedy trying to finish off a boss or by going for a risky parry (more on that in a second). The game is mostly boss fights, and in my opinion the "levels" are fine but they mostly feel like a vehicle to get you coins for buying new weapons/tools. Make no mistake, the boss fights are amazing and make up 95% of the game.

There's a good variety of guns here, with the standard pea shooter, spread shot, charge shot and then some unconventional options like the roundabout (boomerang gun essentially). There's bound to be some weapon that suits your playstyle and with abilities like a smoke dash that lets you dash through enemies/projectiles and coffee that refills your super meter constantly, you have good options for different builds.

My only real gripe with the game play comes from the parry mechanic. You press jump a second time as you pass over a pink object (ANY pink object!) and you parry it, giving you room to dodge and boosting your super meter. The issue I have with it is that it feels inconsistent. I eventually adjusted to it but the timing does take some getting used to, and in some instances it still felt a little off.

Bottom line, if you like to be a big strong jump and shoot man you have to buy this. The game is a STEAL at $20 with how amazing the aesthetic is, how GOOD it feels to play, how inventive/fun the boss fights are, just an overall amazing package.

Why does Mugman drink from his head though?

It's bad. Got this in a humble monthly and was surprised to see it's $20. Not worth it.

Who the hell tagged this a metroidvania? Super short and very bland game, your $2.00 are better spent elsewhere.

With quality far exceeding anyone's expectations, Doom did indeed rip and tear its way into my heart (and possibly ripped it out in the process). This is a game with all the trappings of modern AAA releases that you would want to see. I.e., stellar visual/audio quality, a good selection of guns, skill trees that actually feel like they're worth a damn, etc. Then they cut out the stuff you don't want, such as excessive hand holding, linear level design, shoehorned plot (though we still got multiplayer stuffed in haphazardly, sadly), cover based shooting...just a very good job of cutting out the chaff. In essence, you are DOOMGUY, here's a GUN, go kill som DEMONS, get some more GUNS, BIGGER GUNS and go kill MORE DEMONS, BIGGER DEMONS, and do it all REALLY FREAKIN' FAST.

Simply put, if you only play one FPS this year, make it Doom (2016). And with the current sale price of 19.79, that is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ STEAL. DO IT!
