Crusader Kings 3 has quickly become one of my favourite games and I do definately consider it one of the best ones that released in 2020.

Let me start of by saying, if you want to buy this game for the grand strategy, empire building, massive army raising, or even crusading, then you might actually find yourself dissapointed. Where this game thrives though is role playing! There are so many characters in the world and so many decisions to make! You can play as anyone you want (for the most part) and you are even able to create your own ruler. You can create stories, come up with your own plot and yeah sort of re-write history as with every paradox game.

Crusader Kings 3 is pretty complicated for the new player and it can really put off a lot of people. However the sort of tutorial that it has is very well done for those that will actually take their time with it. If you just click through everything you will have no idea what is going on and most likely will get frustrated. Following through the tips of Paradox Interactive though and maybe a video or two you will have more than enough knowledge to play through your first campaign. It's also very important to point out that the game is more fun when you actually barely know how to play it, once you really get the hang of it it gets really tedious sometimes and that's where the next part comes in.
The least fun you will have in CK3 is when you are playing with the only goal in mind to get big and buff. Starting out as a county holder and slowly grow yourself to an empire can be tons of fun the first couple of campaigns. However it gets tiresome fast and you will find yourself with nothing to do. My recommendation to you is to put the game in Ironman mode, so no saving or cheating, roleplay your ruler, don't cheese your way through everything. For example when my ruler is just and compassionate I do keep assassination plots to the bare minimum only for very extreme cases, for example someone murdered my son, yeah I might murder him back, but I am not spamming murder schemes to rob titles or just to kill of people that don't like me or even heirs that I don't want. A lot of people hate the "Succession Crisis" of the early games and yeah it can be frustrating that your hard earned empire will get cut up worse than UK and France cutting up the middle east after WW1, so you disinherit all your children except that one perfect chad heir, but a lot of very interesting scenarios can come up. Very briefly:

My character inherits the title of the Celtic Empire after his grandfather dies (my previous character) which triggered a colossal succession crisis, at only 13 years of age (his father, a very prestigious warrior, had died in battle a few years earlier), he had to face massive revolts mostly from his aunts and uncles wanting to claim the empire for themselves. This empire consisted of the entirety of the British Isles, Iceland and Scandinavia so it truly was a huge conflict. The revolution ends about when he reaches 20 years old, I mostly banish the imprisoned rulers that fought against me except my aunt which I couldn't find a place in my heart to forgive so I left her to rot in prison. An empire of ashes at my hands, I take first steps into unifying it, reconquer lost lands and at last Christinize most of the pagans in Scandinavia. I earned the title "the Tuatha De Danann" for my efforts, and the following years I started a few conquest wars in the Baltic states. Long story short Pope messages me telling me I am up for the elections of the Holy Roman Empire and I have currently second place. A very religious man who fought for his faith, and for his dead father and grandfather, crowned emperor at merely 13 years old, fought revolutionaries most of this teen life, now at the age of 46 is crowned the Holy Roman Emperor, what a life he has seen.

Roleplay your characters
