Loved this game for a long while. Good game, lots of fun, engaging and easy to move up the ranks with enough effort and teamwork. Very fun multiplayer, good storyline too. But lately I have been unable to play it. Every match I join, everyone is unable to die, we get down to 1 hp and that's it. Impossible to capture anything, kill anyone, do anything. And no one at Dice seems to care. It's just completely ruined, and it's sad to see. Great game until this.

Start game - leave spawn - get one shot by a tank a tier higher a mile away - rinse, repeat 2 more times.

And when you finally research better tanks, you can buy them, sure. After another 50 hours of grinding to get the silver lions to pay for it, unless you pay up real money for it. Oh and you cannot skip ahead from one tank to the next tier without researching every single tank before it. So if you get one higher tier tank and all your others are lower tiers, you are now outgunned in every match you're put in because you are up against a dozen post war tanks in your Stug just because you own the weakest Panther.

After playing Verdun ever since it was a web based game, I was excited to see what was next for the game. But alas, they moved on to Tannenberg, and I was frustrated at their neglect of Verdun, so I put off the game for years. Finally got it on sale, and it can be quite fun. Most of the maps are very good and fun, I can get 70+ kills in a match. However, half the time I try to play, the servers seem to be running out of double a battery power. I will get massive lag spikes, sometimes enough to kick me from the server. Makes it genuinely difficult to play. Which sucks, because the difference of gameplay makes me appreciate this game when it works well. I like the gunplay, the different types of firearms(single shots are a good addition to this game certainly), the progression in a match, it all works well, if only it was properly supported for awhile after release. It just seems that these devs have a habit of designing half a game, and then they make something totally new using the same mechanics but different voices and uniforms and then they neglect/forget about the old game. And that seems to be the case here. After this came out, Verdun basically died(there is an active player body right now, however, which I was told was due to a good sale). And now as soon as they announced their new Italian front game, which again is the same basic game engine but with new textures, voices, guns and maps, this has fallen by the wayside and just sits as something good that isn't really all that great.

Early Access Review
I started playing this as a "free play for a few days" kinda thing on Steam.. And I am so glad I did not pay for this. First off, it didn't even open after install until I restarted my laptop. Then when I did get it open, I figured "its a standard WW2 FPS, controls should be pretty standard". And they were.. but I wouldn't know until the second day because night one of attempting to play consisted of reading the handbook in the game and then waiting copious amounts of time to join a match just for the game to crash, or to be booted from the server and the game tell me "connection to host lost" or something like that. So after a half hour of that, I gave up for the night.. flash forward to the next day and I actually get to join a match, and get 2 kills my first life. Accidentally kill myself with a nade, the usual new player stuff. Then it became very clear that this is not an easy game to learn. And not an easy game to forgive, either, because of the glitches and crashes. So far I have been playing for about 45 minutes, but it has taken me about an hour and a half to get that much time in from all the crashes. Additionally, spawning in to a certain zone and almost immediately getting carved down along with 3 of your buddies by an American hip firing a bolt action rifle from 10 yards out while you can't even get pointed at him before he kills you is kinda suspicious.. and then waiting another 10 seconds at an arbitrary "redeploy" screen, just to wait another 30 seconds to respawn and have the same thing happen again is quite obnoxious. Very bothersome. When these issues are addressed, I would feel perfectly comfortable shelling out some $$ for this game(probably not more than $15 without some serious fixes and additions, including single player tutorials). But there is potential here. Just give it time to become what it needs to be. Also, performance/framerate needs serious work. My laptop can run Metro Exodus on medium settings at 60 fps, but this game has random freezes occasionally that get me killed, or wildly jumping frame rate from 50 to 10 to 30 to 55, just all over the place sometimes, usually when moving around.

So far, very fun. Only prior experience with Halo was Halo CE on pc, Custom Edition, and Halo 4. Reach has been very entertaining so far. The story is good, easy to follow and a good plot. The multiplayer has been buggy for some but so far it's been all good for me, even with just slayer selected in casual mode I get into a match in less than 5 minutes. There should be a rematch option however, so we don't keep getting dumped back into the lobby every time. Also I am not sure if there isn't a text chat like in Combat Evolved, but that should also be added to this port. Also crouching is poorly implemented. You must be stone still, unmoving in order to crouch. 343 announced this was intentional, and not a bug. If they have any sense they will change this within the week.

Amazing story, great open world, can't beat it for the price. So much fun. Worthwhile to look into mods too, make a Nexusmods account and go crazy.

This game is probably the best WW1 FPS in the world currently. Probably because it's a very neglected topic and genre of war games, WW1, and so there is little competition.. But this game is seriously fun, much better than the Beta days when it was web based using Unity which is where I first came across it. It has good gameplay with moderately well balanced weapons(With the exception of all French guns being sniper rifles basically and the 1911 being one shot across the map). However, I feel I must warn the devs as they have continuously said they will absolutely NEVER add vehicles or even horses.. So look elsewhere for tanks and armored cars, basically all the best components of WW1. Small arms is all you'll get here, all infantry based. And that is sadly why this game will soon be replaced and outmoded by Battlefield 1 as everyone will scramble away from this game and go running there.. Everything this game has, Battlefield 1 will probably do better, except for the immersiveness and weapon choices, and adding tanks is honestly the only way I see of this game being kept on peoples' favorites list. There's just no way this game can compete if they refuse to give people what they want from the game, and that will be the inevetible downfall. It is a sad truth but is bound to come. All in all, worth getting on a Steam sale, but don't expect anyone other than long invested players like me to stick around on servers soon.

Pretty fun. Takes too long to get anything new/nice. Really sick of the server being down every, single, night, for the past 2 weeks in a row though, right during prime gaming hours. Reto:"Hey guys, we gotta implement a hotfix tonight. And tomorrow. And every day. Let's do it at, say, 8 to 11 every day rather than 4 AM because why not?"

EDIT: Figured I'd update now since I got back into the game again recently. Every American carries a bazooka with 5+ rounds in their back pocket, along with a fully automatic carbine that can also snipe across the map and kill in 2 shots, all at the same time. Also 1 shot Garand's are a thing apparently, the MG15 is the only thing even similarly close to having that kind of close range firepower as the M2 Carbine. US Tanks still outpower the German counterparts, as do the Soviet TDs. Spawncamping is still totally a thing even with the changes implemented ages ago. Every air battle consists of a German scout plane vs 2 or 3 or even 4 P38s just tearing up the skies, and then dropping 5 bombs every 10 minutes all over the battlefield, destroying all tanks everywhere. Just very clearly, heavily biased, but Germany still has the most players because we're just that stubborn. This game no longer receives meaningful updates, the flamethrowers are kinda gimmicky and fun but overall not the best. The tank rebalancing awhile ago helped somewhat but not a ton. There's still plenty of instances of games where it's mech infantry vs armor, planes, recon, and paras. And that's just part of the game mechanics, because that's the "strategy" portion. Apparently part of Reto's strategy is to make matches so unbalanced that players give up and quit.
