I had previously left a negative review after 3 hours of play on eFootball 2022, which you can find below. We're now on eFootball 2024, I've played 120 or so more hours, and a lot has changed with the game. It no longer feels nearly as bad as it did on launch, the artifacting is gone, and attacking feels much better, without nerfing defense. All of that being said, there's still scripting and a very stingy gacha system if you want to invest into it, but that's par for the course for football games nowadays. As for that last bit, the game is pretty generous, I have a pretty stacked team without spending any money at all, the main problem is that spending money is ill-advised because the top units in the game are stuck in packs with horrible odds.

For what it is, it's fine enough and worth giving a try, especially if you're tired of the other big football game or can't afford it for whatever reason.

OLD REVIEW:

Worst football experience I've ever had. Everything feels extremely heavy, it seriously feels like poorly animated meat sacks are kicking medicine balls around on an artifacting pitch.

Trust me, I want a football game that isn't just through ball spam to pacy forwards, but this barely counts as a game or a football. There's genuinely nothing you can do on the attack, to the point where defending feels more fun, except that some times that just decides to not work either.

But the worst part, by FAR, is that it feels like I'm controlling six year olds. I legitimately think 60% of the passes I go for are the exact opposite of what I wanted and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Through balls just don't work, defenders get to crosses first, regular passes are extremely slow and intercepted easily, the chipped through ball is your best bet because as soon as the ball leaves the ground it stops weighing 6 kgs, but usually the players hit it like they're going for goal even if you slightly tap the button, so the keepers just come out, making it worthless.

FIFA may be generic, boring and uninspired, but it manages to be better than this... thing, without even trying. eFootball 2022 is not a FIFA competitor, it's not a threat to EA, and it's not good, fun, or worth your time. 1/10.
