Say what you want about the changes to exploration/progress management, but the combat in DD2 is incomparably better than it was in DD1. The amount of possible interactions, combinations, strategies is a whole new level, what a brilliant direction!

So if this particular aspect of the first game was important to you, then playing DD2 should delight you :) I am very pleased, especially since I have heard voices before that the second game was supposed to be worse than the first. In my opinion, this is certainly not the case and overall the sequel is even better than the first game for me.
