Early Access Review
I like the general concept and gameplay but where I'm at in the game at this point, I find it just turning into a grindy slog. I've managed to get all the upgrades available in the main menu, I've gotten the masteries for everything to hazard 3, but getting past any hazard 4 stage just feels like it's down to luck, whether it be because the amount of enemies becomes too much or my weapons do too little damage. My only hope is that whatever upcoming update the developers have can rebalance hazard difficulty or buff the current weapons or classes at the moment. In addition, I've been playing this game on my Steam Deck OLED, but despite disabling the max framerate lock, I'm not getting the full 90 frames I would normally expect but only about a third of that or around 30 FPS, and I'm not entirely sure what's causing this.

If you are still considering getting this, I think it's still worth a buy, just maybe wait for a sale. Of course, since this is in early access as of writing, I will most likely go back to this and change this either when the new update releases or the full release occurs.

Pretty fun, although I want to remark that as of writing, while playing on my Steam Deck, I've encountered game crashes twice, albeit very very rarely, whenever I died. This hasn't happened all the time however, and I'm just going to chalk it up to the game being barely a year old and it being in early access.

Either way, opening up the game after the crash shown that I hadn't lost any progress so that's good, and I've also enjoyed my time with it. A bit more involved than Vampire Survivors, and I like the graphical look akin to older PC titles.

Probably the best of the original NES trilogy of Final Fantasy games honestly. Story and character levelling is taking more from the first game, but the job system, freed from the restrictions of previous rereleases, lets the player truly experiment with party formations without penalty, though some jobs are better than others, not to mention the roughness of making some jobs strongly recommended for some areas. I'm also still not a fan of the use of spell charges here. You have more than 9 charges so there's more opportunities to use spells, but on the other hand there's no way to replenish magic apart from sleeping at inns or using a rare item.

Overall though, if there's a version of Final Fantasy III to play in my opinion, it's probably this one.

Probably my favourite Final Fantasy game so far (at least until I hit the later games). Storywise, I found it to be one of the more lighter games, both in tone and in terms of content somewhat, but what it lacks in story, it makes up for in strides with the gameplay. Meshing together the character and party malleability of Final Fantasy II, refinements to the job system introduced in Final Fantasy III, and continuing the use of the Active Time Battle system from Final Fantasy IV results in one of the most enriching experiences I've had with numerous possibilities on how to tackle certain problems.

High recommendation.

A classic, if somewhat basic and short, romp. The spell charge system did take some time getting used to and even then, I felt as if I didn't use as much magic as I would have liked due to not having more than 9 spell charges at one time, though this was somewhat remedied with the addition of ethers compared to the original release.

Still, this gets my recommendation.

I'm probably in the minority in regards to this game. It's not a bad Final Fantasy game, just a very different Final Fantasy game. If you know what you're getting yourself into, you may get some enjoyment from this, especially since a lot of issues have been ironed out compared to the original NES version.

Overall, not my favourite game in the series, but it's the one I respect a lot. However, I wouldn't recommend starting the series here though.

I've honestly been having a lot of fun so far, and I think I have a lot more left to uncover. There's a lack of direction on what to do next, but I think that's part of the challenge. If you haven't played System Shock, this is the way to go about it in my opinion.
