On the surface, this game seems very simple, but delve into the mechanics, and you'll see just how complex it can get. This game has virtually unlimited replay value. So simple, yet extremely engaging. 10/10

This is honestly one of the strangest games I've ever played. Initially, I didn't like this game at all. The first 8 hours or so were extremely slow, and I was considering abandoning it and moving on to another game. Boy am I glad I decided to stick with it. Yakuza 0 has the strange ability to juxtapose an extremely serious story with some of the wackiest ♥♥♥♥ ever introduced to a video game, and it works surprisingly well. One second you'll be fighting for your life with a bounty placed on your head, and then 10 seconds later you'll be singing karaoke or teaching a dominatrix how to be more aggressive. With Yakuza 0, there is no tonal middle ground. The main story itself is very serious, with one of the main characters, Kiryu, dealing with the outcome of being framed for murder, and the other, Majima, working off a debt for refusing an order from his higher-ups. Both characters are extremely interesting, and it's really engaging to see how each story unfolds, and how both of them are intertwined. The countless side stories are what really make Yakuza shine. Both of the main hub worlds, Kamurocho and Sotenbori, are filled to the brim with unique and silly side quests, which really gives Yakuza a unique footprint in the gaming industry. I can't imagine another game series being able to pull off such a contrast in tone like Yakuza does. Not only can I not imagine it, I've never seen a series do something like this before, and it's refreshing to see. Of course nothing is perfect, and Yakuza isn't an exception either. Without delving into the graphics file for the game and updating settings, this game can be practically unplayable. I can't express how frustrating it was to have the game crash because of something as minor as the FPS limit being too high. Even after tweaking the graphics file, the load times between cutscenes can be quite long as well, some even lasting more than a minute. Other than some some hardware issues, I don't have any real complaints about the game at all. It's an extremely engaging game with heaps of content buried within it. I cannot wait to play following games in the series after this one.

A fun, bloody, and challenging retro-esque game with a great soundtrack.
