TL;DR - Can recommend for fans of Harry Potter series and Quidditch as a whole. Can't quite recommend for non-fans of HP and regular enjoyers of sports simulators yet - if you're looking for FIFA, just go play FIFA.

Shame that Steam still hasn't implemented "neutral" reviews, because that's the review this game deserves most. That being said, this review is marked "positive", because there are people to whom I can recommend it and it's not bad at its core per se. It doesn't mean that I don't think it doesn't have negatives, though. Will start with those.

My main gripes with this game as of now are its balancing and technical stability.
On release this game, gameplay-wise, was pretty much entirely built for a casual player, but as the time went on - the competitive scene started gaining more prominence within rapidly declining playerbase, which led to a balance change after a balance change and addition of pretty much full-sweat 6v6 mode. And don't get me wrong - it's great that tryhards get to have a separate mode to flock to and at least not ruin 3v3, but on the other side of it are the balance changes that made gameplay infinitely more stiff and less varied in terms of feats and strategy. Even bot matches (in Campaign mode) nowadays feel way more boring and tiring than on release. And the most annoying thing about it is that I can't even say that it's objectively bad for the game's health - it's just boring as hell, which for me personally is a con.
As for the latter gripe - well, the game has been overflown with bugs since release day and still is now, and none of those bugs are just silly or minor either. Bugs that would lock you out of switching role midmatch or moving at all without using Boost - they are still happening. So does the bug that randomly throws the quaffle back when you are shooting at the goalpost, instead of having it go where you threw it. Or the bug that makes quaffle get stuck in the air, when you try to make a pass. Getting bugs like that is managable in matches against weak casuals or bots, but in close matches it could single-handedly make you lose the game. And that doesn't feel nice. It seems like devs ARE trying to do their best to get rid of these bugs, but 3 months have passed already and I don't see much change on that front.

On release there was a glaring lack of content map-wise, but it seems like the devs are slowly but surely mitigating that, by adding brand new maps and fresh variations of existing ones. Other than that I have a few nitpicks, like not being able to choose the look of "My Team" menu (out of the previous events) and the "Campaign" mode doesn't feel much as such at all. But these aren't crucial and, so, from here I'll move on to the positives.

The gameloop itself is pretty decent and feels very dynamic (unlike the pretty slow-paced Quidditch World Cup), especially as you open faster brooms and go against smarter enemies. But, although the gameplay is not all bad, the license itself, after all, is the main sell of this game. And for that reason - the sheer amount of beloved characters here, for any fan of Wizarding World, is a great thing I'd say. Playable "Heroes" range from Cedric to Bellatrix, from Haggord (mask) to Poppy Sweeting, from Hermione to Snape (& I'm sure there's many more to come). And you can play them on any position, too! Is it canon-friendly? No. But who cares? PvP and Exhibition matches (which are the only matches where you can play as them) are not story-centred whatsoever and it's fun to play as your favourites.

Furthermore, I will applaud devs for cutting down the grind amounts within challenges and such (even if it kinda felt like a shot in the head of those dozen hours that I've put towards finishing the "Career" challenges, only to be told that I actually could've waited a month and have them given to me for free), because I'm sure it does help the newer players, who haven't been playing since Day 1 and don't have a lot of time to spend on Quidditch Champions. And will also applaud for not giving in to the oh so popular strategy of making the game free-to-play, stuffing it with gajillion microtransaction items, making like one event and then giving up on updates immediately - as long as you bought the game itself you indeed don't have to spend any more money, every single cosmetic piece is earnable and the frequent roadmaps do give me some hope for the game's future.

This game serves as a great foundation for what a full-fledged Quidditch Videogame could be, but there's certainly A LOT of room for it to grow. Adding new maps, events and cosmetics is a decent step towards that, but I'd also love for Campaign mode to be expanded into something more personal and story-focused (after all, you can't even play it as any of the canon characters, unlike in Quidditch World Cup). I just hope it doesn't get abandoned in a year, like most licensed multiplayer games do.

@Kawa❄, hilarious isn't it? And here I thought that people only get riled up like this on Steam after a match in PvP games :lunar2019crylaughingpig:

[2/2] You talk about criticisms, yet instead of providing anything constructive - you just basically went "your opinion and right to recommend this game to fans are invalid and irrelevant. why? because I think otherwise". All this because I dare to think that, as a fan, it's more important to have fun with your IP of choice, than be overly pedantic about every canon detail ever (in a silly PvP sports game, no less). And before advising other people to go back to elementary school - make sure you don't make childish typos like "repead" and have adequate English vocabulary ("my brother in christ" is a common slang to address clueless rude people, which you've proven yourself to be twice now).

Maybe try growing up before responding again ;)

[1/2] @[Lotus]Tengarnos, so, you literally just went out of your way to go into the comment section of my review unprovoked (we ain't friends, so it's not like it just randomly popped up in your feed, you actively chose to interact with it) to angrily blabber about semantics and how your opinion is "factually" superior, but I'm the "toxic" one? I did not ask for your input, I merely wrote my review - if you have another opinion on the game, then go write your own negative review, instead of barging into other people's reviews to whine at them about how they are "wrong".

Wow I know people here on steam have problems with reading comprehension but its really an even more serious illness than I thought.

Again I said first its how you define canon-friendly and that many people care. So yes you contradicted. Heck why are all people on steam so toxic against criticism? You really need to learn to deal with it. Because basically all your "counters" are wrong but that would go to long.

So in short "Can recommend for fans of Harry Potter series and Quidditch as a whole" as a whole. So yes you said with your "who cares" fans dont care which is factual simply wrong. But guess you will still not get it. That you never said "who are like me". Oh and btw people can disagree with your reason if the reason is building on wrong assumptions. Only thing you are right is your experience which I never did btw. Maybe repead elementary school before calling some imaginary friends (christ)

My brother in Christ, "Is it canon-friendly? No. But who cares?" is literally a series of sentences present in this review. Never do I ever make a claim that contradicts it. Quidditch World Cup game was a huge part of my childhood and I do have a lot of fondness for numerous characters of this world - hence why I feel like I can recommend it to people like me, you can't agree or disagree with my experiences or any reasons I had to write what I wrote. You are well in your right to not recommend it to fellow HP fans yourself, but I dont see how that has anything to do with my personal review.

Depends on how you define canon friendly. For me canon friendly also includes right team size (which obviously isnt the case by your review) right rules (which I also already found out isnt implemented) and not only are chars in the right timeline. So as a potterhead no I highly disagree with your first sentence. The game is completely for casuals whitout any attachment to the series (and yes for me competitive is also casuals in this case because they do competitive for the competitive sake which also is a casual approach.)
