The Skywalker Saga feels too overambitious. Each movie only has 4 levels and they don't really feel as fleshed out as other Lego games. The plots for each movie are super abridged to accommodate for the short length of the campaign, neutering the story in favour of most of the plot taking place in the open world. About 60-70% of the story takes place in the open world, not in levels. Most of the 'gameplay' in the open world is walking through empty locations following objective markers to get to the next plot point, and that also suffers from a lot of backtracking and time wasting. The game is bloated and padded to hell and back to hide how little variation there is in the game.

The new additions to the game such as the enhanced combat feel unnecessary with how bland the level design is. Most enemies barely pose a threat to you, and that's not even considering the fact that death is pointless in Lego games as you instantly respawn with a few less studs.

Despite how this is meant to be a love letter to classic Lego games like The Complete Saga, they still don't capture the spirit of the originals since most of the cutscenes are just 1-1 recreations of their respective movie scenes but with Lego Minifigures, whereas fans of Complete saga enjoy it for the non-spoken slapstick comedy storytelling. They added the "mumble mode" extra but that doesn't address the root problem as the cutscenes are still 80% dialogue but the characters are just gagged now and make noises instead.

The game's development was plagued with tight work schedules and crunch culture, leading to a lot of scrapped content and the game being a buggy mess on launch, which it still is as the game barely got any bugfix patches in favour of adding several waves of DLC characters that aren't even voice acted, instead resorting to generic grunting noises.

Excellent AAA Ubisoft tier Open World Star Wars Game. Hits every nail on the head in that regard. But it fails to actually be a good Lego game comparable to the original classics it's trying to so hard to harken back to.
