Refunct is a very smooth and beautiful 3D platformer where you progress by touching platforms, which colors them, and finding and pressing buttons located throughout those platforms. Each button raises more of the platforms out of the water to explore. The visuals for the game are very nice, especially the water and lighting changes brought about by the purely aethetic day/night cycle, and coupled with the great soundtrack lead to a very relaxing yet exciting environment. The platforming is extremely smooth with wall jumping and some jump pads and the jumps feel satisfying and fair.

Progression is measured by the percentage of platforms that you've colored, with 100% completion being reached when you've touched and colored every platform. The game is considered 'complete' once you've pressed all the buttons, but you can continue to play after to reach 100% completion or to just jump around the islands and swim in the water. There are small collectable cubes scattered around the islands and each is tied to an achievement for collecting it, but none are super hidden, and in reaching 100% completion you will almost certainly get them all if you haven't gotten them all already when completing the game.

A recent update has pushed the game more in the direction of speedrunning by providing sites to track records and achievements for reaching time goals. While I would normally be against such a change to a game I considered fun and relaxing, it fits well with the game mechanics and adds to the replayability of the game. Even with these changes, it isn't the longest game, but I have ~3.5 hours played right now, and given the price that's pretty good.

The only complaint I have about the game is the color selection when coloring the islands. Originally every island would be colored green, which led to a color sceme that I really liked. However, as of right now the color that the islands turn is randomly choosen upon starting a new game (it was changed in an update). While all the colors look nice, I would like it more if I was able to manually set it to green through an option. However, there have been a number of updates to the game, so it is quite possible that something like that may be introduced in the future.

In terms of achievements, a majority of them will be earned in your first run, especially if you focus on collecting all the small black cubes. The others require subsequent runs requiring you to replay the game to finish while meeting certain goals, specificly less than 33% completion (you need to hit the buttons while avoiding platforms when possible), having a run under 8 minutes, and having a run under 4 minutes. The 4 minutes run sounded quite hard to me initially but I was able to do it in just a couple tries after watching someone do a similar run and then learning a good route as I attempted to complete it. Completing the game used to be very easy before those last three were added in a recent update, and I would normally be really against adding achievements after a game had already had them for a while, but the developer did specifically offer to unlock the new achievements for anyone who had previously completed the game and was having trouble with the new ones, which was nice.

Overall the game is a really solid platforming experience in a very relaxing and neat environment, and is very satisfying and fun to play.

Machinarium is a terrific point-and-click adventure game. The animation style is really unique and cool, especially after the latest update which updated the graphics to be higher quality and smoother overall. The music is terrific, and complements the animation style to give a lot of character to each scene. It does a wonderful job portraying each character and telling a narrative without using any words at all.

The puzzles and scenes in the game are well crafted and are fun to figure out. The gameplay is smooth, and I was pleasantly suprised with the responsiveness of the minigames in particular. The puzzles themselves were a good difficulty, but there were a few scenes where I found it a challenge to figure out what to do. However, built into the game is a tip and walkthrough system by which you can get a tip at any time and by completing a small minigame you can get a pictoral walkthrough of the entire current stage (screen). This allows for you to figure out the solution to scenes when you're completely stuck without having to resort to external walkthroughs, which in my experience end up spoiling more of the game for you than you intend.

The only thing that I found that I didn't like about the game was the fact that upon entering a new stage (any time you walk through a door or up stairs or something) the application's volume resets itself. I was unable to initially find any volume controls and used the computer's volume mixer to turn it down as with my setup it was a tad loud. However, the volume would periodically reset to a louder level, which made this ineffective and I ended up playing the game with loud sound (which, given how good the music and sounds were, wasn't that bad). After I completed the game I did accidentally find the volume controls, nested in a menu under 'Help' at the bottom of the main screen, so this was in part my own fault. Most settings for the game are under that 'Help' label, which I wouldn't have guessed without clicking on it.

From a completionists standpoint, the achievements are all tied to progression, and if you complete the game you will earn them all without having to go out of your way at all, which is nice.

Overall, the game is very clever and I highly recommend it to anyone who even slightly enjoys point-and-click games.

Bunnyrama is a tile-based puzzle game whose mechanics are similar to those of Toki Tori 1 or Block Dude for the TI-83/84. You move bunnies around as mobile platform pieces to allow yourself access to different parts of the level with the end goal of reaching the exit portal. The levels are a decent difficulty, so you certainly shouldn't go into the game expecting to beat the levels on your first try; I find myself reseting several times for most levels. The game contains 70 levels, and right now I've spent around 2 hours in the game to complete about the first quarter of them (which are presumably also the easiest quarter as some are clearly designed to explain game mechanics). The puzzles are enjoyable and satisfying to complete, and I would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys puzzles, especially platforming puzzles of this nature.

Absolutely LOVE the game. The puzzles are nonogram puzzles and although they start out small, they get to the point where they are quite a challenge. However, if you like easier puzzles, there is the option to complete the larger puzzles in small pieces, allowing all puzzles to be completed at the difficultly level you feel like attempting at the time. The controls feel smooth whether using the mouse, the keyboard, or a controller, and switching between these options at any time is automatic and seemless. The paintings can be quite entertaining, and several have left me in suspense as to what the subject is right up until the end. There are a vast number of paintings, and the mystery masterpiece mode allows for the feeling of fresh new puzzles even once you've completed them all. There is a massive amount of place time availible here, making the game well worth the price. On top of all this, the dev is extrodinarily nice and responsive. I highly recomend this game to anyone interested in puzzle games.

This game is one of the most fun I've ever played. It exemplifies the open world puzzle-platformer style game and integrates in a very cheerful graphics style. The core of the gameplay is exploring around the world and collecting items whether to open doors, complete quests, or return the stability of the world. Many of the items require puzzles to be solved, some of which are manuvering a block to the exit of a little maze, some of which involved the physical objects in the rooms, and others that require decyphering of clues left around. There is a lot of platforming (as should be expected in a platformer), some of which takes a good many tries. The game reminded me of Fez (another game I loved) but with puzzles that were actually possible to solve without guides. Another benefit of the the game is that the dev is extremely friendly and responds quickly, fixing issues and making changes to the game.

There were a few minor things that took away from the experience though. I had some issues starting up the game, and with the game slowing under certain circumtances (these issues were quickly addressed by the dev). Occasionally I would jump near the edge of a block and it wouldn't render the jump, so the controls weren't entirely tight. However, if you enjoy the puzzle-platforming genre do yourself a favor and pick this one up. You'll enjoy it.

TRI is a beautiful game, both in visuals and in mechanics. You place triangles that allow you to climb, walk on walls, and reflect light beams. There are many challenging puzzles, and many cool puzzle mechanics, especially if you are interested in finding all of the hidden statues. The art is very pretty, and sometimes very abstract, which fits the game perfectly. The music plays in segments with silence in between, and while it fits the game, it can get a bit repetative if you are stuck on a level for a long time.

However, dispite all the wonderful things about the game, there are times when I hate it. The puzzles can be VERY hard, especially in the later levels, and I had to look up videos or search the forums in order to progress. When bending light, minute changes in a triangle can greatly affect where the beam lands, and I often placed as many as 30-50 triangles to get the light to land in the goal. (Note: if you use the tab button to fix your head and make your triangles exactly the way you want, you end up with much fewer triangles, but you still often spend a great deal of time making tiny changes) I did not discover the quick save (F5) button until very near the end, and there were times where I would die and get greatly set back, especially when I collected statues since the save. It was not uncommon in the later levels for me to wander around aimlessly for as much as 20 minutes trying to figure out how to progress. Some times I wouldn't pick up on a new mechanic being introduced and end up placing dozens of triangles to brute force my way through the puzzle. Triangles would also place oddly, either refusing to create for no apparent reason, or placing prematurely, requiring more work to get the exact triangle you needed.

And then comes the idol statues. In each level there are around a dozen little statues hidden in tiny nooks and cranies. As an achievement enthusiast, I had to get every one in order to 100% the game. This process would have been excruciatingly painful had I not used the guide (which is awesome). I would have wandered around, spending insane amounts of time backtracking and searching every square inch for fake walls or hidden coridors, constantly worrying about missing something. The time I spent in the game would likely be three times what it is, and it wouldn't have been fun. It was this feeling of banging my head against the wall to find the last idol (sometimes difficult even with the guide) or trying to cross an acid pit that took the fun away from the game and make the last few levels feel like a chore.

I spent a lot of time deciding whether or not to recommend the game, and I finally decided on recommending it, but with this warning: play casually. Don't sit down and think "I'm going to get all the statues in the last two chapter", because you won't enjoy it, it will be hard, painful work. Think instead, "I'm going to enjoy this game" and play through what you get through, and do it calmly. Try not to get overly frustrated at a problem, and if that does happen, take a break! If I had done that, my experience with the game would have been SO MUCH more enjoyable.

This game is exactly as it seems to be, an excellent yet simple puzzle game. The mechanics are basic, match the lasers to their corresponding outputs. However, it also involves a mechanic for combining colors into a single stream and then separating that stream back into its original colors. This is heavily involved in the levels. There are 60 puzzles that start out simple, but soon become slightly more difficult, but all are fairly quick. Some even appear to be created by players, which is really neat. The levels took me 2.2 hours to complete. There is also a level editor, although from my little experience looking at it, it is unclear if you are able to share levels. I would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys puzzles, especially minimalist ones, as that is exactly what the game provides.

Cubot is a colorful minimalist game with solid puzzles but the controls can be a bit wonky. The levels are made interesting by the use of a wide range of mechanics, most notably the use of multiple layers, extending the puzzles into 3D. The fundamental mechanic is that you move colorful cubes (each color having specific atributes) to lead them to their goal. All cubes in the level move simulaneously - when a cube is moved left, every cube will move to the left. This leads interesting levels that grow more difficult as the game progresses. At the end of each level, the game displays the minimum number of moves required to beat that level, and you can then retry the level to improve your best move count the one or two (or five or ten) moves. However, completing the game and earning the achievements do not require perfecting the level, making the game fun for serious and casual players. You also build up points as you complete levels that can be used to view the solution to a level you are stuck on.

The biggest complaint I have about the game is that you need to go to the menu to reset a level. Especially in the later levels it can be easy to get the level to an unsolvable state, and I often needed to reset a given level a handful of times to get it right. WIthout a keybind to reset it, you're forced to open the menu and click the button there, which quickly grows bothersome. The controls are also a bit strange in that the arrow keys control the camera (which you barely have to change) while WASD or the mouse control cube movement. The mouse controls require you to swipe the mouse in the direct of the intended movement, which feels unnatural. The menus are also very simple, and while there aren't any options missing, the menus feel hurriedly thrown together rather than elegant. Pressing exit also doesn't immediately exit the game, you're then require to additionally click the screen afterwards, which feels unnecessarily complex. The sound played when you hover over a button, something required in-between every level, is harsh and contrasts with the music. After about ten levels I muted the sound effects, which mitigated this problem, and the ambient music without the effects then fit the game excellently.

The game has 80 levels which took me around 4 hours total, which for the price is pretty good. The levels work well and the music is nice, so if you're a fan of this type of movement puzzle, I'd recommend the game.

I really enjoyed this game. The twisting was a neat idea, and the puzzles were rather challenging. I really wish I could forget how to solve all the puzzles so I could do them all again!
