Nothing quite like it on the market that I've played thus far. It's a game of patience, less emphasis on running and gunning like other shooters; more so communication with VOIP to plan out strategic placement and advancement/defense against the enemy with your officers and commander. It's a constant back n' forth that can go on for a while.

Starting new, you're going to be met with my good friend "Killed In Action" screen a bunch. Mainly because you'll need throw out pretty much every habit you're used to committing in other FPS games to get anywhere and do anything meaningful on the front-lines.

When you finally start getting it down, you start feeling pretty euphoric. Comparable to a high from any other game, except, it's for achieving objectives and getting praise for doing something beneficial to the whole team, like for example wiping out enemy spawn points (called garrisons) near the point, effectively denying an all out push. Or, putting them up nearby an offensive point, being that driving force for your comrades to push in securing it down.

I've been told it's more fun to play with friends as you can make private units that random players can't join unless you allow them. Always more reliable to get a few mates and play a game that requires communication and teamwork, I don't have any that play this game so I'm at the mercy of randoms. They can rage from more than dependable to having extreme irreparable brain-damage. Either way, it's fun.

Currently, I've only really got experience playing infantry, so I can't really speak on the behalf of the community that focuses on being tank or artillery crews. They can help if everyone pulls their weight while having a few communicate at the very least. Lacking artillery isn't too bad, no armour crews can easily cost your team the game as they allow for infantry to hold back while they advance forward.

TL;DR: It's not like a typical shooter, you've got to have some patience, think some more before acting. You will die a lot for seemingly no reason when starting off. Communication is key! especially when playing officer or commander. It will take some time to get most of the fundamentals down, around 70 to 100 hours in my case. Once you do, the game opens up way more, you might find it was worth all the suffering and loss along the way. :>
