Territorial Cow: Steam is being weird as ♥♥♥♥ with you, it says you're offline and I can't respond, but still receive messages from you. Which is why I tried adding you in hopes it would fix it. I wasn't not replying on purpose.

I downloaded AOE via the mediafire links and for some reason all the text throughout the game either doesn't appear or shows as "?????????????".

Can anyone help me out? Thanks!

I've been using the Widescreen mod just fine, and on Gameranger. Not sure what you're doing, man, but it works fine for me. I had some unrelated issues with the game at first, with it somehow crashing a few minutes in the game whenever I decided to play multiplayer, but other than that, nothing.

I'm not sure if GameRanger spits out an error message at you or anything. But if it's just crashing without giving you any error, try disabling DirectDraw whenever you want to play it online. It helped me, and I've been able to play succesfully without any issues anymore.
