We are very sorry that everyone got wiped but it really was totally our of our hands.. The provider we use had no explanation for us other than the game is in alpha state. Everyone lost everything. Theres tons of new people playing so get your butt back in and gear out.
Hi folks,
We've noticed that some Rust servers are restarting really, really often (every 20 minutes).
Unfortunately this is caused by a MASSIVE memory leak in the game code which causes it to eat 1GB of RAM every 15-20 minutes on some servers - this is causing them to very quickly fill their allocations and get restarted.
The image below shows the slow memory leak before yesterdays update and then the massive one after.
Clanforge does shutdown servers softly and force a save first though so these restarts shouldn't cause any data to be lost.
Unfortunately as this is a problem with Rust itself, there's nothing we can do from our side to prevent this. Technically, allowing a server to use more RAM before we restart it would delay the restarts, but the leak is so big that it's just not worth trying - any increases we make to our limits wouldn't even dent it.
