What's our motto? WE DON'T NEED ONE!

We had a rough match last week. We're inexperienced and we had 4 subs playing. I think this is a message that we need to try and step our game up, however. Here's the next match:

The map this week is cp_gullywash_final1. We're back to 5CP this week. If you're not familiar with the map, go learn it. It's up on the TFG server; the password is still 'deadringer'. It's more complicated than most of the maps we've played so far.

Practice: I won't be available on Saturday. You guys should still try to get together and get some practice in with each other; specifically the core classes (Medic, Demo, Soldier... and perhaps Heavy/Pyro). I should be around on Sunday if anyone wants to practice then too.

I think we need to talk about what everyone's role in the game is. I'm not an expert, so I welcome opinion about this, but here's my description of what the roles are:

Scout- Flanker. As the scout, I'll be using my mobility to see the enemy position, and communicate the important information back to the rest of the group. If I see an weak spot, I'll go in and see if I can't pick someone who strays too far from the back.

Soldier/Demo- These two classes are generally key to making a push. When on offense, they'll be the first to go in. On defense, they'll be guarding the chokes, where they can output the most damage.

Pyro- The pyro's first priority is defending the medic. This means spy-checking every bastard who comes within 100m of the medic's backside. We had a major problem with our medic getting picked last week. This week, we all need to be more observant of our medic's position. Keep everyone off the medic. Burn the spies and air-blast anyone else out of range. You should also try to help the engineer if the spy is giving him trouble, but again, medic is #1.

Heavy- The Heavy is a mobile turret. He won't be leading the charges. The heavy will be used to hold ground that we've already obtained. He'll still be right behind the soldier and demo during a push. Try to be mindful of where the medic is and give him the ability to heal you without putting himself at risk.

Engineer- The engineer is the immobile turret. Your job is to lock down the point we have control of. If we're pushing to their second, you should be set-up on mid. We want to have a position to fall back on (preferably before our last...).

Medic- Your job description is simple: Get ubers. Especially on 5CP maps, it's Uber-charges that cause pushes to happen. As always, be mindful of your surroundings. Don't chase down and heal a player if it puts you in a vulnerable position. If the medic dies, we've all screwed up. Don't let that happen.

Sniper- Your job is pretty straight forward- Kill things. Make sure you are familiar with the map so you know where the angles are. Of course, their medic is always your highest priority. Dome them.

Spy- You, like the scout, are one of the classes that won't be sticking to the main group. You should be behind enemy lines trying to pick off anyone coming off spawn (I don't mean camping their spawn... if they are taking mid, watch for players coming through their second). Occasionally move up and see if you can't pick a high priority target.

The main power classes (Soldier, Pyro, Demo, Heavy, Medic) should always be in a group. Don't go solo trying to pick off players. Protect the medic. For those classes, try to get some time together this weekend to get some experience together.
