The Original Mapping Resource

This is the Steam group for The Snarkpit; the oldest still active game level design community on the internet!

Join the SnarkPit website (link below) to gain access to tons of community-built Source and Goldsource (half-Life) game maps and levels to download!

We currently hold:

+ We cover over 40 popular titles including mods (new and old) and retail games based on the Source and Goldsource engines.

Join us if you want to talk:
- About your maps, any artwork or utilities.
- About what it takes to get started in editing for the Source or Goldsource engine.
- To people who have been around for a while who know video games and level design.
- Any questions at all about editing for Source or Goldsource.

Don't be shy, we'll talk to you about whatever. Also, feel free to introduce yourself in our forums! We're a small community (since 2001) that has outlasted the instant rave of the fan-made start-up sites around when Half-Life was first released (1998). We stuck around because our community held a strong ethos of maturity and sociability. We've evolved over the years including several face lifts and site redesigns, but we're still the same good 'ol SnarkPit.

So the Announcements page has officially skipped the whole year of 2011. Apparently, I didn't feel the need to say anything here for that year.

So, there aren't any new competitions coming down the pipe quite yet, but I wanted all to note the change to the Steam logo, and the updated description for the SnarkPit profile. I think it sounds a little more inviting, over the simple fact that this is a community group which comprised the whole of the old description.

SnarkPit Mini-Competition 2010

Now Open!

Lay the fuse and light the match, because the new SnarkPit Mini-Competition has begun!

We're doing things a little bit differently this time around. We're accepting ALL FPS GAMES! You can map for whichever FPS game you can get your hands on (assuming it has a public SDK to make maps with) and submit it. We're also currently taking proposals for judges; no prior competition experience required! If your interested, be sure to check out the official competition thread for more info!

Remember, this is a Mini competition, so don't fret, we're not expecting masterpieces here. We simply want to see the concept realized in whatever state it's in. Yes, we have two categories for which you may submit your map to:

1. Finished
2. Work In Progress (WIP)

Map's within each category will only be judged against other maps of the same category. We want to see as many entries as possible, so we'll take anything you started, but didn't have time to finish.

So lay back, and enjoy an end-of-the-Summer brief mapping competition to let the worries of the day go by. -That is, if mapping is therapeutic for you too! :-P
