Sony made three announcements throughout the day regarding their PSN service, which has been offline for almost a month now. The biggest of the three announcements is the fact that American users will see the service come back online at some point tonight.

The first in this announcement trilogy was an entry in the official PlayStation Blog which stated that a PS3 firmware update is now available that will have all users change their passwords before logging into PSN.

The second announcement was made by Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai. He apologized to all PSN users for the outage and security breach and said that the service has received major upgrades in terms of security and that all users will receive identity theft protect and the "Welcome Back Package." Although when and what is in the package is still unknown but it will be made clear in a few days.

And of course, there was the third announcement, which was the fact that the PlayStation Network will be back online in the US tonight. In fact some states already have it. Although the only feature to be restored tonight will be online play. Everything else will be back up soon enough.

International users may have to wait a little longer but it shouldn't take too long.
