Timeless Classics, back with a Center-Held Vengeance!

R3VIVE Gaming is currently on an indefinite hiatus. Thank you for your understanding.

R3VIVE is a group about games... old games. There are very few games that can top the adrenaline-fueled fun of a classic Arena FPS. These are the perfect blend of twitch-aiming, map study, movement exploits, and on-the-fly planning, fitting together to make deep and compelling online experiences that should never die out. A low player count under normal circumstances won't stop us from enjoying the best of the best in gaming, even if we have to do it ourselves.

Formerly an active match hosting group that organized weekly events, R3VIVE in its current state acts primarily as a curator and announcer for any large developments for retro games. While R3VIVE is inactive at the moment, there are plans to... well, r3vive the group... that have yet to be announced. In the meantime, we have an active Curation page that recommends classics of all types along with relevant information about remakes, remasters, or spiritual successors to many of these old games.

Curation, Future, and Grim Fandango on GOG!

Hello,

To those of you who may have been clicking back here, you may have noticed that the forums are looking a bit simpler than they used to be-- lots of clutter categories from the original launch have been taken down in order to bring group discussion a little closer together, should the forums become more active. Our goal is to at least serve as a place to organize game sessions together during the group's hiatus, and these restructures will allow unofficial matchmaking between our members to take place. If you're interested in joining with others, make sure to subscribe to the general forum to look out for scheduled games!

We have also created a new subforum to discuss any and all curator-related matters. Whether it's your own opinions on a certain game or if you feel that an old game on Steam may be overlooked to some degree, every Curation from now on should be directly linked to this subforum now in preparation for the new Curator update Valve has been teasing for quite some time.

In the meantime, I don't really have anything to announce yet for the group. As I stated before, we are in the process of finding a more streamlined approach to managing this group that will both make organizing matches simpler and keep our members engaged-- it seems that a mix of burnout and confusing new systems really bogged down the group in our last public run, and I'd like to avoid that in the future.

I'd just like to close this off by pointing out that Good Old Games brought out Grim Fandango Remastered for free to kick off their Holiday Sale. If you haven't already, I highly recommend making a GOG account to claim a free copy in the next 36 hours, as Grim Fandango is a masterpiece of the adventure genre, as well as one of the most accessible old-school adventure games that new audiences could ask for. GOG is also a great place to pick up many classic games, including recent rereleases of DESCENT and Jazz Jackrabbit.

I'm also pleased to announce that, as a curator, we've now hit 100 followers! Special thanks to everyone who's currently following our Reviews Page, and I sincerely hope that you've managed to find a few gems you may have missed under those tabs. I also have other plans for the future of R3VIVE, but everything is still in the drawing phase and I'd rather start off on the right foot when we get to that point.

Don't rule it out! It'll be a bit more restricted due to personal stuff, but I'm still preparing to R3VIVE... the R3VIVEd... R3VIVEd... R3VIVE. We'll be back one of these days!
