Hello youse,

Sad announcement to make this one, but I think the team's going to fold at the end of this season, for a few reasons, all of which are my fault.

a) We can't play enough together because of ♥♥♥♥ schedules and irregular dinner times.

This is a pretty simple, but I think the biggest one: we have the worst luck in the world when it comes to having a full, fieldable team. With Hysteria, Matek and Theo leaving this season, we just don't have any subs at our disposal, and considering that, with Gef's uni stuff, Grabby's end-of-week absence, my pathological hatred of Mondays and Cabbage's curfew, we barely reach two scrims a week.

I naively thought this might get better, but I think our schedules are never really going to work because one of us is always away on pretty much every day of the week. Subs are a temporary solution - the reason we're 4th in Division 6 is not because we're bad individually, but because we don't play together enough to actually be able to act as a proper team. To put stuff into perspective, Kawaii play about eight a week, Jolly do about six, and Fat Kids do about the same.

b) Myself, Thunder and Theo have been asked to go play div5 with some mates of ours.

This sounds really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and I promise I haven't shut the team just because I got a chance to hop a division - but a mate's asked all three of us to play in a team with him. Myself and Theo have known him for easily a year now and he's disappearing this October - seriously though, I'm not disbanding an entire, 12 person team because I want to jump a division.

c) I really don't enjoy leading teams.

I'm no good at tactics, my organisational skills have been spotty at best, and other div6 leaders have no integrity whatsoever when it comes to dates. Leading a div6 team is, I'm afraid, enormously frustrating, and I don't really see any way of getting around that without someone else taking the reins.

Also I'll have to find another demoman. HEEURK.

It's been a fantastic run, and it's been a pleasure playing with you all - if ever you need anything from mercs to design work to sexual favours, give me a shout and I'll do my best.

You fellas have been wonderful putting up with my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and all the problems we've had with demomen, Mumble servers, default wins, Polish nationalists and half-arsed map talks.

I genuinely couldn't have asked for a better way to do my first sixes season. Let's do the best we can against Fat Kids and just have a laugh. Also at least we did better than like three of the teams in our division who just gave up on sight of us.

Just had a look at the schedule and I think we've got it as filled out as we can with Thunder not being able to until Thursday - here's what I think the maximum is we could do:

Monday 3rd: One scrim at 6pm.

Tuesday 4th: Two scrims at 5:30pm until 6:30.

Wednesday 5th: Maybe a scrim at 7:30?

Thursday 6th: Two scrims + a map talk at 5pm?

Friday 7th: One scrim at 6pm.

Saturday 8th: Official vs. It's All About The Pan (we'll be playing with Finlay instead of Grabby there)

Sunday 9th: However many scrims from 7pm.

Also we're playing Jake (thespeenorism)'s team tonight - gully + badlands.

Why double bomb?
Double bombing can be applied to every map, so your team can streamline the time you spend prepping midfights. Having a go-to strat lets your team focus on execution and teamwork.
Double bombs are also effective at promoting aggression, something most people find fun but that many newer teams lack. They help your team recognize when losing a few players to win a fight is a worthwhile tradeoff.
Lastly, well-executed double bombs are highly effective at nearly every level of gameplay, making them a worthwhile investment of practice time.
What is a double bomb?
First, your roamer looks for an opening as soon as he gets to mid. He tells the team he is jumping and who he will shoot, and jumps. No more than a second or two after the roamer jumps, your pocket jumps and shoots everything looking at or damaged by the roamer.
Here's some examples.[1]
Note that the bomb never came more than a couple seconds after the roamers got to mid. In order for this strategy to be effective, it must be fast, and the roamer must call the jump.
Note that both soldiers should reach mid with 300; if that isn't happening, figure out what's wrong with your medic's heal order.
What do the other four members of the team do?
The rest of the team needs to follow up on the damage, clean up kills, and support the soldiers' aggression. To avoid leaving your demo and medic too exposed, your scouts should play around your demo when the combo gets to mid. While the soldiers jump, your demo should get tapped to full health if possible. However, it's potentially more important to make sure your scouts are buffed so they can follow up on the damage dealt by the soldiers. (Fights are won with early explosive damage and late cleanup, usually in the form of hitscan. Figure out what stage the fight is in to determine what type of damage is more important.)
As a unit, the other 4 players move toward where the soldiers jumped while healing up. If the scouts and demo are good health, placing additional heals on the roamer and/or pocket (usually whoever is more accessible) may further prolong the distraction created by the soldiers - many players won't switch focus off someone they already dealt 200+ damage to.
Who should the double bomb focus?
Double bombs will usually focus the demo. Since ideal double bombs happen early in midfights when both soldiers still have their buffs, killing the demo before he uses his full clip can significantly shut down the other team's early fight damage output.
Focusing the medic early can be risky, as a smart team will go after your medic once theirs dies - and double bombs already put your medic at greater risk. Try focusing the medic a little later in the fight to give the other team less time to react and kill your med.
Make sure that focuses are clearly called, even if they're not ideal. Focusing the wrong person is better than every player shooting someone different, especially when you're just starting out.
The other team is double bombing and we're scared to leave our demo/medic!
Let's be honest, are you really going to land those airshots? How often does staying back actually keep your medic up? A lot of the time, you're better off accepting that your medic/demo doesn't stand much of a chance against an effective double bomb, and the best you can do is force a trade. If your medic is going to die anyway, long-range rocket spam isn't exactly going to kill the other med, now is it?
So how do we counter double bombs?
Against uncoordinated teams, you can play passively. Your medic and demo can stay a bit back - with scouts and soldiers blocking the path to them to distract any bombers. Kill the bombers, and then move up as a team with numbers advantage. Passiveness can counter bad aggression.
But in my experience, the only thing that's countered good aggression is better aggression. Jump as soon as you see an opening so that the other team has to play reactively and decide whether to kill the soldiers or ignore them. If the other soldiers haven't jumped yet, you might get all 6 enemy players looking at your soldiers, making for easy cleanup from the rest of your team.
If the other soldiers have jumped and are already on your medic/demo, sometimes it's best to jump in anyway, moving your whole team forward so your medic can dish out heals and your demo can serve up some damage in their last moments of life. Hopefully your soldiers can prevent the other team's players from following up on their own bomb, and your scouts will be able to salvage the fight.
