Ubisoft has announced that Watch Dogs will be available on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC in North America on November 19 and in Europe on November 22.

Additionally, the company has revealed that the open-world action-adventure game will be available as launch title for the PlayStation 4, and is "also planned for other next-generation consoles". That'll be the next Xbox, then.

We'd heard previously that the game would be released in time for "Holiday 2013", so it's nice to know that every now and then rumours can turn out to be true.

YOU know the wakeup scene in the movie The Hangover where there's a random chicken walking around and a Tiger growling away in the bathroom - and things kind of just get weirder from there?

Well, the whole of Las Vegas could be feeling a little like that this week.
Things are about to get hot on the western side of the USA and Canada. Record hot. Fry-your-brains kinda hot. There's a Tiger in my bathroom and I'm too hot to care kinda hot.

In fact, forecasters are suggesting the hottest temperature ever recorded anywhere in the world could be broken this week, and Las Vegas is close to the epicentre of the heat zone.

US website Climate Central says the "brutal and potentially historic" heatwave is due to a deep ridge across the Western states. A ridge is another word for what we Aussies call a high pressure system.

So basically, picture your classic Aussie summer weather map with a great big H in the interior directing northerly winds over the eastern seaboard. Now flip the pattern, with the winds coming from the deserts of Mexico.
But we're guessing you don't want meteorological mumbo jumbo. You want to know how hot it's going to be.

Well, the hottest temperature ever recorded in the world was 134 degrees Fahrenheit (56.7C) at Death Valley, about two hours west of Las Vegas. That was exactly 100 years ago.

The US National Weather Service forecasts it will reach 129 degrees in Death Valley on Sunday and Monday. That's 54 degrees, which is considerably hotter than any day ever recorded in Australia. Just a couple more degrees and there goes one of the oldest records in the book.

But it's not just remote areas like Death Valley which will be affected. Phoenix, Arizona, could break its all-time record of 122F (50), with 119 (48) forecast for tomorrow and at least 110 (43) on order for the next week.

Las Vegas is forecast to reach 116 (47), which has prompted state weather authorities to issue the following rather blunt warning. The caps are theirs:
AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF EXCESSIVELY HOT TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY. LITTLE RELIEF IS EXPECTED AT NIGHT...ESPECIALLY IN URBAN AREAS SUCH AS THE LAS VEGAS VALLEY.
GREATEST IMPACTS: THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE A LIFE-THREATENING HEAT EVENT FOR THOSE AT RISK.
A TOTAL OF 17 PEOPLE DIED FROM HEAT-RELATED CAUSES IN THE LAS VEGAS VALLEY FROM JULY 14TH TO 23RD IN 2005...WHEN TEMPERATURES WERE OBSERVED AT OR ABOVE 112 FROM THE 14TH TO 17TH. THE PEAK TEMPERATURE DURING THAT PERIOD WAS 117.
In other words, if you have a big night out on the town, drink lots of water and try to pass out in the shade.

Even US cities like Portland Oregon, which is renowned for its endless drizzly rain, will nudge 40 degrees C at least twice this week.
Meanwhile, meteorologists are making an inevitable link between this week's heatwave and climate change.

Scientists often repeat the mantra that individual events cannot be taken as evidence of long term trends, that we should never mistake "weather" for "climate".

That all changes when the extreme events just keep coming and coming.
"Intense heat waves are one of the most well-understood consequences of manmade global warming, since as global average surface temperatures increase, the probability of extreme heat events increases by a greater amount," wrote science writer Andrew Freedman on Climate Central.

"Data already suggests that heats waves have are becoming more common worldwide."
