Project -old-steam (WIP)

In 2018, valve pushed quite a few major updates to the steam client. One of the
bigger ones to note is the friends chat and friends list overhaul released on July 24 of that year after it being in beta for several months. While controversial in the eyes of a few including myself, it seems everyone else embraced the udpate with open arms. While it added many new features such as the "Invisibility mode", an updated DM voice chat with a higher bitrate, ability to send inline links (youtube, .png, gif) without having to click on that link to view it.

Shortly after, people posted a few simple command lines in the launch properties of steam. -nochatui -nofriendsui was the one that worked for a short while until even that was removed sadly. -no-browser is the only remaining target parameter that works. It has worked for well over a year now so I doubt it will be patched any time soon. Who knows...

While most of this was for the betterment of the app, several features were taken out completely such as statuses in friends list, The ability to view Current Players in game on the steam browser, along with several other quirks that I have come to discover along the way. I will not post any of my opinions on the main page here rather in the discussions on why I believe steam pre-overhaul is better.

Here is how you use -no-browser and what it is

Most importantly, I made this group to educate the curious as well as a tool for anyone who misses the old interface and have happened to stumble across this group.

*If this group reaches 50 members, I will do a raffle giveaway for either tradable items or a steam game of the winners choice. Giveaway/events will be hosted if this group becomes popular enough.

Here's me hoping valve will give us an option to revert our good ol' client back to it's former self as a possible alternative steam platform without destroying the current one.
