Local Defence Detachment Kyllikki was founded on 30 March 2001. The unit grew quickly, as Operation Flashpoint drew Finnish military game enthusiasts. Especially those who had completed their military service found LDD Kyllikki attractive, because it offered particularly well-organised games, stricter leadership than many others, and, above all, the comradeship of a close-knit unit. In addition, LDDK had ties to FDF Mod, the comprehensive modification of the Finnish Defence Forces.

In February 2007, LDDK moved from Operation Flashpoint to Armed Assault, the original developer BIS's successor to Operation Flashpoint. By the summer of 2009 the game had evolved to Arma 2, which was later expanded with Operation Arrowhead, while also Iron Front was sometimes played. By the end of 2015, LDDK had adopted Arma 3 as its primary game.

The structure and ranks of LDDK follow Finnish military convention, although some liberties are taken. We don't go into too much detail or hardcore role-playing (except in specific campaigns); however, a fair degree of organisation is maintained to ensure enjoyable gaming for every player. The most important weekly events are the platoon cooperation exercises on Sunday evenings, while training and other game events are held mostly on weekdays. In addition, squad meetings are arranged often several times per year.

If you are at least 18 years of age, enjoy playing in organised and cooperative manner and, importantly, speak, write and understand Finnish, you are applicable.
