Nancy Wheeler, portrayed by Natalia Dyer, is a main character in "Stranger Things." She is an aspiring journalist, the older sister of Mike Wheeler, and the girlfriend of Jonathan Byers.

In 1983, Nancy's life changed when her best friend Barb disappeared. Teaming up with Jonathan Byers, whose brother Will also vanished, she discovered a monster from another dimension was responsible. Though they rescued Will, Nancy was devastated by Barb's death, fueling her determination to defeat the creature. With Jonathan and Steve Harrington's help, they wounded the monster.

In 1984, grieving for Barb strained Nancy's relationship with Steve, leading to their breakup. Seeking justice for Barb, Nancy worked with Jonathan and journalist Murray Bauman to expose Hawkins Lab, leading to its shutdown. Nancy and Jonathan grew closer, starting a romantic relationship.

In 1985, Nancy and Jonathan interned at The Hawkins Post. Investigating diseased rats, Nancy discovered another link to the alternate dimension. Despite being fired, she and Jonathan continued their investigation, eventually joining forces with her brother and his friends to defeat "the Mind Flayer." Afterward, the Byers family moved to California, and Nancy and Jonathan promised to stay together.

By 1986, Nancy was a reporter and editor for her school newspaper and was accepted into Emerson College. When murders occurred in Hawkins, Nancy investigated with Steve, Dustin, Max, and Robin, uncovering a link to Vecna from the Upside Down. Despite their efforts, Vecna's plan led to destruction in Hawkins. Nancy reunited with Jonathan, facing the merging of the Upside Down with their town.
