Ah, the beauty of the Universe. Majestic beyond belief. We are merely dust amongst the giants that call the Universe home. Planets, stars, clusters, nebulae, galaxies—all of which follow the Universe's laws and motion. A constantly changing place, accelerating and slowly ripping itself apart. Our home, Earth, is only one of billions upon billions of worlds.

So, you ask, "Why are you telling me all this? What's so great about the Universe?" Ah, young, naïve human. You see, I've reached enlightenment from none other than the infamous existential crisis. Normally, people are not self-aware. They don't grasp that fact that they are but puny organisms that only know instinct. Love? A chemical reaction. The meaning of life? It's to reproduce. Now you understand how small you are. Now you understand that your whole life's nothing but a self-regulating chemical reaction. But there's one more thing—you're capable of bending the laws of the Universe at your own will. Now go, invent space travel. Well, unless you just want to keep watching yiff in your mother's basement. Hey, it's your life, not mine.

Mankind's Burden

Allow me to discuss a rather thought-provoking subject with you. For a very long time, I have been wondering humanity's true purpose in the vast Universe we call home. It spoke to us deeply, and thus civilization sought after to decode its secrets. Imagine living 11,700 years ago, the beginning of the Holocene epoch, and looking up at the stars. Those bright specks enveloped in a membrane of colorful, milky dust would have been just enough to baffle anyone. Perhaps they were the reason why big questions such as, "What is the meaning of life?" and, "Why are we here?" came to be. It appears to me as if mankind has been "given" the burden of discovering the Universe for what it truly is. We are but mere organisms, living in a complex world, without the capability of ever truly decocoding it before our inevitable demise consumes us. It is unfortunate, but it is the truth, and we can only accept that our species' stubborn nature will only bring us closer to it. But we are not to blame, and we must rather blame instinct. Instinct is what drives us to warmonger, divide ourselves, and fear the unknown. Its grip is powerful, and it cannot be defeated. Our civilization, as a whole, will one day be nothing more than ruins, and it is all because of instinct. A cycle with doom looming over each and every failure, but all we can do it look up at the stars.

I'm not fond of the idea of having three of my seven courses in school being math courses. I know, it may seem as if a nerdy guy like me would love that. The truth is, I'm more of a language nerd than I'll ever be a math nerd. Not only that, but I live in Las Vegas. Si, yo soy de Vegas. Just so you know, Las Vegas is in the U.S. state of Nevada, which is number 51 in education. I hear you saying, "Matt, there are only 50 states in the U.S. The ♥♥♥♥?" You're forgetting the territories. Puerto Rico, not even a state, has a better education ranking. The reason why I'm indifferent to having all those math courses is that I've had many ♥♥♥♥♥ as math teachers, and thus, making me hate the subject as a whole. Although, that's not saying that I'm terrible at it. In fact, I'm actually pretty good at it. Honestly, it's just the fact that I don't give a single ♥♥♥♥ that makes me want to die. No me importa. As the title suggests, mátame.
