It's been a little over a week since I announced that I was going to be reviving EGI and I figured it was time for a progress update on everything.

First, I have made a discord for EGI. There is a link to join the discord at the end of this announcment. Anyone joining the discord will receive a special role for being a loyal member of EGI. I will of course check usernames/join logs. After the server is ready for the general public, the role will no longer be given out.

Now that that is out of the way, onto the server progress. Freezebug had previously given some of the server files. However, thanks to Acruid, we got more up to date files to work with. On top of that, he also had the weapon assets! All the weapons have their original models and sounds and we don't have to start from scratch!

Cee has generously offered to host the server for us. Server specs are hefty and current server player limit is 128 players (most likely reduced later). He is also assisting with fixing some of the code.

Almost everything is some what working. All sweps work though some spam errors while others dont have models and still others don't have firing sounds. The game mode loads but not much else is different betwen it and sandbox at the moment. Cee is overhauling the old money system.

Finally, a Trello has been made for the server. Trello is sort of a to-do list that lets us organize the work load and see what needs to be done. You can see everything on the list, and comment on any of it to offer feedback on individual things.

Hey everyone its Ragon. It's been a really long time hasn't it? Eric gave EGI to me at a time when I was not able to fully support it and it died due to that. I made a few sand box servers since then but they were never comparable to EGI. I'm in a rocky position but steadily I am getting my footing I have decided to make a dedicated effort to reviving EGI as it was before. There is a lot to do to make it happen and non of it will be easy.

There are a few main problems standing in the way of the revival.

• Firstly, all the old addons (ie, armaments, the game mode, the money system) are broken. They need to be updated to gmod 13 syntax changes.
  
• This leads us to the second big problem. I don't know any lua, and I cant afford to hire anyone to fix it for me.
  
• Thirdly, some of the gamemode systems require MySql and I dont know that either.
  
• Finally, I don't have any of the original forum's files and even if i had them I wouldnt know how to set them up

All that sounds pretty bad but I do have some good news too.

• I have secured the egigaming.com url. It was previously parked by some company and being sold for $11,000
  
• With that url I also have a dedicated web host, so once I learn how we can easily set up fastDL, MySql, and the forums

Below I am listing a very rough "road map" to the revival project. There is no set time line since, for now, I am the only person working on this.

• Learn gLua
  
• Get armaments working
  
• Get the gamemode working
  
• See if EGI Admin is worth repairing or if ULX is better
  
• Get forums set up
  
• Get website set up

And some more ambitious things that I probably wont be doing till everything else is done

• Add something special for EGI vets
  
• Set up donation page and rewards
  
• Add new sweps to armaments
  
• Set up automated event system (base wars, weekend map change, etc)
  
  Its going to be a long journey to do all this, but we will get there eventually.
  
  Currently there is a sandbox server set up with alot of tool addons, wire, and m9k sweps. It's nothing like EGI but if you want to come hang out while everything is being fixed you are more than welcome to.

I'm extremely annoyed to report that the server may be down for a few more days. Our host has refused to talk to us, and generally we have no way of getting our files / backups until we can resolve a few things.

I want to apologize for the downtime, and can promise that we will be up as soon as possible.

I don't have the full details on why our server is down, but I can assure you that if we do not get a timely response soon enough we will be looking into potential alternatives.

I'm somewhat proud to announce that we've recovered from the hack. While some security issues may still be present, and I won't deny that, none of your personal data is at risk.

I'd also like to mention that our BTK gamemode is being overlooked to eliminate any possible security loopholes that may exist.

I want to thank those who donated to our new box, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused our loyal players.

I'm not going to lie, the real hacker (not A_C_, also known as "Aaron Caplette") is still at large, though we're not scared or intimidated. Do you know what happens when you hack us? You try to threaten us and blackmail us saying you want your own little demands. I was classy about it before, but after the amount of money and work I had to spend to get things up and running again was apalling. So, that being said, I extend my middle finger and anounce a warm-hearted "fuck you." Now that we've got the hardware, all that you can really do is attempt to hack our personal data which is stored in a LAN server at my own home. So, keep trying. I encourage you to. We've got nothing really worth taking.

You want us to be scared and bow to you, too fucking bad.

In the early hours of Monday morning, EGI suffered an unprovoked attack. Two individuals, A_C_, also known as "SketchyMorals" (Last known SteamID's: STEAM_0:1:39447534 and STEAM_0:0:43269474), and an unidentified player have claimed responsibility for the attacks.

The attacks have no clear motive behind them. The attacks were performed from a VNC owned by one of EGI's staff members. A_C_ was granted access previously as he was thought to be a trusted individual.

Two databases were downloaded, none of which contain any sensitive information. The databases contained ranks, times, a clientside version of our money system, cached bans, and a few configurations.

The dupes, gamemode, addons, etc. were NOT downloaded.

I would like to apologize for this inconvenience, and can assure you we are doing everything we can to get EGI back in running order.
