Hey guys,
First, welcome to the group! My hope is that this platform can be useful for online communication much like Google Wave was back in the day (remember that Bryt?). Which also means be transitive rules we may end up using Google+ at some point since it should be able to be configured for this type of thing.

I've been looking into art style for the game and the tagged games on this group, as well as WC3, and SC2 have been informing my train of thought. WC3 provides a great style from the standpoint of similar polycount/tech specs (although I think some have 256 texture maps, which is higher than our goal). By clicking the view 3D in the model's page you can get a decent in browser viewer that does not require the game or any other apps, although you will need js, and it only works on desktops as far as I know.

From what I see color is the main way to distinguish models, so Bryan, your suggestion is spot on. Also, it's pretty common to have colored rings below the character to indicate as well.

I really have enjoyed WC3's style and it works well with the viewpoint that we are going with, but I'd like to temper that against modern examples of the viewpoint in games due to not wanting to be quite as "cartoony" as WC3. I'll try to post some pics soon and we can discuss what that actually means from there.
