De Vita Caesarum - (Background)

Ever since Romulus and Remus frst suckled off the she-wolf there has always been two factions, at first the two brothers, founding two different settlements, but then the rise of the Optimates and the Populares continued these into the last century, the century where Rome has changed more than ever in its entire History.

"Ista quidem vis est!" (Why this is Violent?). Gaius Julius Caeser, Dictator for Life, said these 3 word as some of his last as he was stabbed 26 times by a group of 60 or so senators on the steps of the theatre of pompey. In Caesers desperate attempts to get away he tripped and fell, just like our glorious republic as the second triumvate work to proscribe the Optimates, unleashing another cull which continues the deadly rivalry between the two factions.


Mark Antony was defeated at the great Naval battle of Actium, in only a few months time he would fall on his sword and another round of proscriptions took place, eliminating the only chance of the continuation of the republic that millions have died for to protect and nuture. Imperator Caesar divi filius, a title adopted by Octavian signalled the rapid decline of the republic with the Senate providing him with the powers he requested over all the provinces and then the powers of the tribunis plebis and censor which made him the most powerful man in the world at that time.


On the 40th Anniversary of his 'Fathers' death, Emperor Augustus was poisoned by fresh figs laced with snake venom whilst hosting a feast remembering Julius Caeser. Within hours the Optimates sruck fast and hard murdering most of the Julii gens and reinstating the true, divine role the seate should play, saving the republic and disposing of the imperialism that hasn't been seen since the ast days of the monarchy which the people despised.


The political system has finally stabalized in the last few months. The populares have managed to have their first consul elected since the Death of Augustus and their cause is growing significantly. Both factions are evenly matched with wealth and cunningness, what will happen remains unclear, even to the priests, but what is certain is that there is more unpredictability and attempts to reimpose the imperial system. how long shall the new republic last? Only time will tell!
