FAR settings that got me butter smooth frame rate
Well, after messing with settings for about a month or so - I finally managed to get things working "perfectly" with no stutters (except when streaming new data).

I've tested this on three very different PCs and can say it works great for me.

In game settings
============

Full Screen = yes
V-Sync = no
AA = off
Filter = 2x

FAR settings
==========

Native bloom = on
Native AO = on
Global Illumination = low
Remove 60 FPS cap = on
Busy wait capped FPS = off
Framerate limit = off
Sleepless render thread = on
Sleepless window thread = on

Also in the D3D 11 Settings (this is important)

In Texture management

Texture cacheing = on
Ignore Textures without MipMaps = off
Cache Staged Texture Uploads = off
Cache Size (Shared with system RAM) 8192MB [higher = better]

# Note - for the texture cache to work, you will need 8GB system RAM or more!

Be sure you're using the latest build of FAR.

I also tested this with the H.D. texture pack enabled

FAR

HD Textures

You will need VidSquish to re-do the movies for 60FPS...

Hope this helps other people get the best from NieR Automata PC version :-)

If this helped you - please comment :-)

Cheers to the guy below who keeps changing his user name for being the first "Thank you!"

Small update - if you have tried all of this and are STILL getting frame time judder, simply go into the Nier Automata game folder and do the following:

1) Delete "dinput8.ini"
2) Rename "default_dinput8.ini" to "dinput8.ini" (no quotes)
3) Make a backup of the renamed file
4) Launch game and see if you have a locked 60FPS with no frame judder
5) If YES, then remove the frame limiter in FAR
6) Done! Now enjoy playing :-)

Thanks - I was having an awful day today and all it took was your "thank you" comment to cheer me up :-)

By contrast - I had a really fab day today, so your wish came true...but with Internet lag... XD

Oof. Ethernet is the way.

Replacing "dinput8.ini" with "default_dinput8.ini" content worked for me. You have no idea how grateful I am to you. I can finally play this game without freezes with FAR. Thank you <3

Glad to be of service :-)

Just a question about this configuration. I take it the way that you have vsync set up this is if you have a monitor with higher refresh rate than 60 hz? I was getting screen tear so I just enabled vsync in game and it fixed it.

You can change the refresh rate of the game by editing "RefreshRate=" param from "-1" to your screen refresh rate in the "dinput8.ini" file.

So I've also spent ages trying to get this working. I've tried almost every combination including everything you suggest here and I'm stuck.

No matter my settings, frametime starts fine and slowly gets worse in a steady pulse. Every second I get a lag spike that gets bigger and bigger with play time.
I've tried disabling all forms of overlays, combination of removing 60fps cap and enabling/disabling FAR frame limiter. Can't seem to get anything to work without the frametime gradually getting worse.
Using fullscreen, DSR, AA off. Wondering if it's something to do with texture caching or something because it feels like some kind of memory leak with how it behaves, but RAM/vRAM remain steady. Assuming it's something a bit more low level to do with FAR and memory addresses or something.
Spent around 20 hours trying to get this to work consistently but haven't had any success.
I occasionally have success copying a clean version of FAR which can work but once I restart my PC it goes back back to gradually worsening frametimes.
If anyone has any more suggestions I'd really appreciate it :)
Will obviously try ops suggestions here again
Edit: looking at your settings, 60 FPS limit removed + FAR frame limiter removed won't overall FPS be over 60fps? The developer has stated this isn't good for certain parts of the game as physics / code are tied to the 60fps limit being in place at some stage, be it FAR or in game limit.

Get faster PC hardware.
