Does it run on different drives when the mod is uninstalled?

i found this while looking for trouble shooting on the game. "have a theory. A few others have been able to get the game to work by moving the game to a different drive, normally from a secondary drive to their main system drive. I believe Microsoft might have changed some Disk Policies with the latest Win10 updates, which could break a lot of older games. There is a old thing that Windows did for you called 8.3 Naming Convention. Back in the DOS days your file names were limited to 8 characters for the name and 3 characters for the extension, hence 8.3. Windows doesn't enforce this, but has always created aliases in the background for compatiblity reasons at first, and then later because older File Systems have a limit of 260 characters for paths (really annoying I'll tell you). Well they've been trying to phase that out as NTFS, the standard file system for Windows, no longer has that limitation and Windows no longer maintains compatibility for MS-DOS applications and hasn't starting with Vista". i changed my drive to support this but it still just crashes on that drive.

I don't believe just enabling it is enough, if the lack of 8.3 filenames are the issue. Those filenames are created when folders gets created or renamed, so you might have to move the game back and forth, or rename a folder or two, before it works properly.

You can use CMD and this command to see what the current 8.3 filename (if one exists) is for files/folders:

dir /a /x

Here's an example of an output from my system: https://images.aemony.se/sharex/cmd_2018-07-18_17-27-22.png

The yellow text is the 8.1 filename and as you can see not all of them have one.

If the lack of 8.3 filenames are your issue, then it's highly likely that either the game itself doesn't have one, or one of the folders above the game folder in the folder structure. So if e.g. your Steam folder resides under D:\Random long folder name\Steam\steamapps\common, then maybe the folder "Random long folder name" might not have one?

Edit: I forgot to mention that files and folders with names shorter than 8 characters (or whatever the limit is) obviously will not have a 8.3 filename, which is what we're seeing in my screenshot.
