RIP MESSENGER (2004-2015)

NASA's MESSENGER (MErcury Surface, Space ENvironment, GEochemistry, and Ranging) probe has officially crashed, its mission complete. It hit Mercury's surface at a little over 14,000 km/h (8750 mi/h), creating a crater about 16 meters in diameter.

One of MESSENGER's biggest discoveries was that, despite being the closest planet to the Sun, there is ice in craters near the poles.

Yellowstone supervolcano is much, much bigger than once thought

A new magma chamber of the Yellowstone supervolcano has been found, and it's more than four times larger than the other chamber. When Yellowstone blows, it's going to be big.
