There appears to be a backlash against using mods on public servers, and getting to heart of it is everyone wants to publish their ship on workshop. Also having no extra blocks also means that no mod can fail and remove blocks. Also keen will be adding MUCH more blocks in DLC's in the next two years. After two years I Keen then advancing to SE2 (say after SE1 turns 10 years old). I will set the server to allow saves, and will clean and post the server on to the workshop, and post some of the biggest ship (if they are not workshop items) to the workshop also.

I want to add new planets, but they add hundreds of MG tot he download. The current download is 2GB, the current one is almost half a GB. But I want to add one or two extra planets. Normal Pertam and One with water (water world). And maybe a planet sized moon as a water world (triton?). Each Planet will get TWO moons (on opposite sides of each planet). Planets/moon will be arrange to avoid eclipses. Thinking about a "black nebula" void with a hellish planet in the middle. I'm currently playtesting mods to keep the blocks as vanilla as possible.

After four years, and 2500+ users connecting, I think it's time to reset the server, due to user corruption I have been unable to fix, and due to the new meta coming with warfare 2 update. Also due to live changes I have less time to maintain the server, so I would like re-balance the mod to just use vanilla blocks, but put in has many quality of life mods to bring the game up to 2022 standards. So the mods will try to add extra functionality to existing blocks (like food, sleep), visual improvements, and environment (nebulas, water).

Progress for smoke test all passes except tiered thrusters (which just exploded). Picked a provider ViLayer (same we had before cheap and lots of cpu). I’ll tweak the planets so central can be built at center. I’m worried about the down load size. Last time it was 60mb. I think it’s going to be over 259mb this time. 98mb is just the skybox.

I’ve started smoke testing on mods for a new sever. I Decided it will have planets. I’ll update the mod list as it gets stable. I might still have to include mods that are abandonware but still working. The old concrete blocks mod has bigs so testing a new one. The old air tight mod crashes. Need to make sure the optimized blocks are air tight. The only must have mod is ‘space got real’ because of the realistic light effects.

The server is up...but the world unusable. My client will not work. I got a client to work on my laptop, so I'll spend some time on the weekend and see what I can do to get it working.

how about lets have one planet , the smallest one available near the central , i would like to see if my system will crash on me and we have fun with that one planet till further notices.

No planets. Yet. So far testing has shown planets like to crash the SE client. I love the Space Spiders, so they need a home planet. Planet pirates are far too agressive (its kind of a joke that Keen considers them "easy").

@Yishima, the respawn ship is slow, because Keen changed how thrusters work, and now they provide less thrust, and eat more power. They have been adjusted to be slightly better then when you posted, but it's still bad. I'll have to rebuild another respawn ship. I'm been looking at modular pods that can be stacked to make an outpost as the respawn ship.

Update: For the last week, I've been unable update the server since 10/15 because of pingperfect, they are upgrading their servers this weekend. If that fails I will be seeking a new host provider. I was planning on seeing if a another provider would be better once the new netcode is out. Some mods still needs to be removed (large assembler, thruster booster, mega containers, large solar panel, and a few others) it's slow since the mods are used in many places so it'll take awhile to get them out. I looked at putting it on another server while pingperfect gets it's act together, but nothing looked good (three month contacts!).

the lag was temporary (someone had a wall of refineries going). the spawn ship issue, is keens fault...and I don't have a fix yet. The only solution is to start with few resources, which sucks since it means asteroids will get chewed faster, and the server will have to be reset more frequently. Thanks keen. I thought about using one of the weight lowering mods, but since toughness is based off weight, it made even the reinforced armor like tissue paper.
It will make replacing the 160,000,000kg of resources someone took from Central even more important.

Future plans:
-no planets, I don't see any way for them to be server friendly.
-I'm seeing another server reset for the end of the year. crap in the save file, and no good way to clean the saves out.
-still trying to forge relationships with other servers. In case the talked about linking actually happens.
-bots. Yes, when they come out the server will have them.
-still trying to update the spawnships to reflect the new mods, and try to deal with the mass issue (the spawn ships are now back to being heavy battering rams).

Server is running good. There is some minor issues with "blocks cannot be placed" this can be resolved by grinding out the blocks around the problem.

Many mods, have been added over the last few weeks, and now some mods are going to have to be removed (large assember, mega container). The focus is on small mods with maximum impact that let the game play go on longer, and directx 11 compatiably.

The entire game is crippled by the update two weeks ago with materials now having mass. The spawn ship when from 50,000kg to 1,600,000kg. Thanks keen.

Central is only a few month away from completion.

When the netcode comes out (promised over a year ago) I will hunt for a another hosting solution. Something with more cpu power and I can actually control what run on it (so I can consider running server extender).

Server is up but horribly lagged. Sim speed is at .18, minimum I consider to be .25, the goal is .5. The current suspects is lag causing lots of lag, plus they are not working. Also old items in assemblers causing errors. Also seeing clouds that form and disappear randomly. I will also be removing the gps and weypont mode now that it is no longer needed

I would like to point out that you should probably put information such as server name, TS information, etc on the group page. Even though that might lead to having passwords to prevent unneccissary encounters that would cause problems with people. Its just an idea.

No worries Klok I can sympathize with work headaches. Congratulations on the new job. Central has been replaced with the old one and I just keep upgrading her. Ran meteors for a week this week. I might leave them on permanently, but make them rare. Hitting a lot of bugs because the server has so much old stuff.
