Gamers Against Early Access

The community group is for gamers who are tired of the most latest trend in the gaming industry; asking for handouts.

For quite sometime now a large majority of indie titles and even some industry retail titles have been charging players for 'early access' to their games, allowing them the 'privilege' of being part of the development process.

What is even more disturbing is the fact that a new trend has been appearing; charging premium prices for early acess to keep it more 'exclusive'. There is absolutely no good reason for this behavior.

Join this group if:

1. You are tired of game developers abusing the good will of the gaming community.

2. You are tired of game developers asking for handouts.

3. If you grew up in a age when developers got their funding from investors and loans and not from the gamer's pockets.

4. You remember being rewarded for pre-ordering a product.

5. Are tired of being asked to pay full or above price for an unfinished product.

Well this one is old news by now but should nevertheless be mentioned here.

On 15. January, El Oshcuro wrote on his twitter feed that:
"Our goal is to make Greenlight go away. Not because it's not useful, but because we're evolving."

We have no idea if it has anything to do with early access but it seems as if the whole presale thing is on Valve's agenda at least.

Cube World started off as a small indie project with a very small fan base. The people who were following the project kept asking for it to be made avaible as an early acess, alpha game.

As more and more people began finding out about what was considered a hidden gem in indie gaming, Cube World became more and more popular. In the first few weeks of sales in 2013, the sales numbers were staggering.

Fast-forward to today, there has been no update or even a single word from the developer or his wife on the current status on Cube World. The website is dead, their youtube channels and twitter accounts barren.

Developers need to understand that when they sell a project before it is finished, people are investing not only their money, but good will into the project with the understanding that some day it'll be finished. This kind of behavior is completely unreasonable.

I would like to add the statement, that I am not comfortable with Number 3. I definitely support all other points mentioned.

Regarding Number 3:
I am glad to live in a world where game designers are able to fund exceptionally good games by the good will of a community.
