How to Form a Team

If you want to form a team, you should be aware of the following points. It's mostly not as easy as you think.

Define the Team Structure

If forming a team, you need to decide what kind of structure it should have:

5 player roster with stand-ins (1-2)
6-9 player roster with rotators
Now you need to decide out of these two systems:

5 player roster with stand-ins (1-2)

PRO:

Really effective
Everybody always plays
CONTRA:

Requires high activity
Requires really reliable people
6-9 player roster with rotators

PRO:

Really flexible
People are able to play even they are at specific times not here
CONTRA:

Requires many people
Training sessions need to be repeated with guys that weren't here
Sometimes people want to play but can't
Team Roles

Your team should have a decent split-up of the roles:

1 Primary AWP
1-2 Allrounder(s) (Secondary AWP)
2-3 Rifler(s)
And of course one of them needs to be the IGL.

Get the Right People

You can get people from next to everywhere of course, but there are some pages where you can search for players and make a team post.

If you are finding some people, you need to figure out if they will fit into your team. For this, the best thing is to have a talk with them.

So you should be aware of following points:

From?
Age?
Ping?
Role?
Experience?
Same goals?
Same activity?
Reliable?
Same motivation?
Able to be critiziced?
Don't joke about the list above, you will see especially activity level, motivation as well as age are crucial to the team.

If you think a guy is fitting your requirements, you should play some games with him. In my opinion you should play 1 week with a guy everyday, look how he plays AND CALLS! Is he reliable ? Does he still wanna play and is motivated ?

If you did the scenario above 4x and you found 4 decent guys, you need to setup the first training and inform your team what the plan is, to make your team the next stepping up semi-professional CS team!

Getting Started with the Team

Congratulations you have past a milestone. Your first full team is ready to start and improve.

For that you should make sure that people are staying in contact and are able to communicate.

What I've done, is to make a Whatsapp chat and put everybody in there. Exchange Steam etc.

Now you guys need to decide, if you want to make a set training schedule, or a flexible:

For example you can write on your chat everyday if you guys are online, today, in the evening, after work etc.

Or you are making a shared document or calendar, where everybody can set in when he's available, and then you can decide when there's training.

Of course you can also make a set trainingschedule, based on availability of the people.

The Training and Improvement

Now you guys are ready and everybody's here for the first training.

But what are you going to do on the first training, this is really depending on the skill level of the players at the start:

Define on each map the Callouts, be specific about naming the corners and spots of the map.

For MOST of the teams it would make sense to make default setups on CT and T side.

Sit together and watch how you can defend a spot, how you should stay and play together on-site, what would make most sense.

Go play pcw/faceit/cevo/versus etc. vs same level enemies.

Talk about the default after some games, what went wrong ?

If you say you play the defaults decent, you can go one step further:

You can define a second default
You can start making executes, learn the nades needed
You can start making fixed roundstrats
Once you feel good about playing pcw enemies and you have some strats/executes for each map, go for a league or some tournaments:

CEVO
ESEA
ESL
FACEIT
Those are the biggest leagues, just go play some games.

After you played some games, look why you lost and what could you make better in your rounds. So you can start with this stuff:

Analyze your own demos
Analyze pro team demos, to get some thoughts to improve your play
Adapt your strats, to what you have seen and experienced, find the bottleneck
Maybe you can try to get a coach, if you don't know why you always losing, you want success in short amount of time
If you know who you are facing -> prepare yourself watch some demos of the enemy team.
Once your on the level where you are playing against amateur teams where you win/lose and you try to improve as a whole team, your pretty far.

Because until here, the biggest problem are the players of the team. The chance that one guy left, went inactive, raged out, is unmotivated, can't be criticized etc. is really high. That means only after some amount of time, you will see if people can be tolerant and also be able to build up a decent amount of chemistry between eachother.

So congratulations!

Now you can really improve as a team and get a good chemistry between the players and step-up.

So, that was the hard start of a team :)

If you haven't noticed already, ControlledCreations has acquired a CS:GO Competitive team, and just rebranded!

We switched up the logo, headers, team colors and bios.

Personally, I'm hyped up for this summer as it'll be a defining time for what we have in store. I'll personally be building my fastest computer yet while reviewing the components, and both Cajun and I will be highly active on the YouTube.

Our Competitive team has great team chemistry as is, and will be looking for more players and subs to help keep us going strong!

Warming up is essential to competitive play. Not warming up could cost your team the entire game because you are not able to hit your shots.

Warming up helps not just you, but your team as a whole, and forgetting to warm up could make your entire game look like this:

For starters warming up is not trying to kill as many people as possible by spraying them down with a p90 in deathmatch. Warming up should be taken as a way for you to try to improve yourself. Using helpful guns like the AK, M4'S, AWP, and other similar guns will help you get ready for competitive play.

You can use community maps such as these to help with your aiming.

This map combines both aiming and reflex control to help you improve in a variety of different ways.

One of the most common maps is Aim Botz. This map is great for Pistols, Rifles, and even Snipers since it combines medium, close, and long range combat. You can choose between stationary bots or dynamic bot moves to help challenge yourself in multiple ways

This map is different from the other two as this one allows you to practice recoil control. As aiming is important recoil is also key to being an amazing csgo player

There are many more maps you can search for that will help, but theses are the maps I personally use for aiming.


Although aiming is a BIG part of warming up other factors such as movement, smokes, flashes, reflexes, and among all, teamwork.

Playing on surf maps can help with your movements. Bhop maps will also help you keep a consistent movement, but these maps are less helpful for competitive play since they usually have a much higher velocity set to them



One more common mistake I see people do is not to practice there aiming on actual players. Aiming and shooting stationary bots is helpful for killing stationary players, but if you can't hit a moving player at all then that is a problem.

Going on deathmatch or communitive FFA servers are extremely helpful for your aim in general.

Having the ability to hit someone's head in CSGO could mean the difference between getting the kill or not getting the kill.

When playing on bot maps or deathmatch servers try to aim at your enemy's heads to get used to where you should position your crosshair.

Having good aim and good movement will not help you if you don't have coordination or teamwork. If you can't communicate as a team or understand smoke, fire, flashbang, or how to use grenades then you will not be able to rely on JUST your ability to kill players.

Teamwork makes the dream work and not being able to work as a team will make it extremely hard to win games.
