Send me a friend request. I'm looking for people to play together. ;) ;*
Community servers have historically been such a core component to Counter Strike and many other source games. Before matchmaking and official servers these community servers were effectively the only way to play online. It forced people to pick a server with rules, members, mods, and maps they liked. People became regulars to a server and often found a community to feel a part of.
Community servers like VPP have become increasingly rare. There are none remaining on the west coast & possibly in the whole of the US. VPP was one of the last. It was a place I found when I was incredibly alone, emotionally vulnerable, ashamed of my past, and afraid for my future.
I will never forget the kind and honest people who also called themselves a part of this community. I wish I knew why community servers like this have disappeared. In the end it doesn't matter I suppose, the experience of being a part of it all was enough.
