Can't import SMD?

There was a bunch of characters with like, accents and stuff, should I remove those? I know when my PC locale changed it messed up a bunch of things.
Just installed the Source Tools (latest release) and every time I try to open an .SMD file I just get this
https:// imgur.com/a/nuhI8Yz (put a space in the link I wasn't sure if Steam would let me post a link)
It's annoying me like hell, I can import the .obj fine but the SMD wont work :-( Help
