Future of Baltic FGC

A week has passed since Wintercon in Riga, and it’s the perfect time to share how everything went.

First, the trip was not only productive but also incredibly fun. We started preparing months in advance: accommodation and transport were booked well ahead, and our team was fully equipped and ready to go.

Initially, our plan was simple: play in tournaments and relax after busy days. But fate had other plans—our weekend became even more exciting as we took on the role of tournament organizers and coordinators of the festival’s console zone. Spoiler alert: we nailed it 100%!

This was our first event outside Estonia where we handled tournament organization. Logistics felt like a quest, but we made it work. On the day we arrived, we headed to the EXPO to set up most of the equipment. This strategic move saved us plenty of time when the festival began.

Over the course of two days, we:
Interacted with participants and spectators.
Managed tournament brackets.
Supervised the console zone.
Despite all this activity, we still had time to explore the festival, relax, and enjoy games with fellow fans.

One standout tool was our team communication via radios. They were so effective and fun that we’ll definitely use them at future events.

What did we improve?
Organization is all about growth, and we implemented a few innovations that we’ll carry forward:

Tournament Delegation:
With two tournaments running simultaneously, we assigned each one to different team members. This simplified everything and avoided chaos.

New Role:
We introduced a dedicated position to collect and report match results. Huge thanks to Maria "Rayzey" for her flawless work in this role. It was so effective we’re keeping it for future events.

Dedicated Hosts:
One of the highlights of the weekend was the incredible hosting by Misha "The Destroyer", who kept things smooth and engaging throughout the event.

These changes were true game-changers. Tasks were better distributed, and hosts no longer had to track scores manually.

Highlights of the event
At times, organizing Wintercon tournaments felt even smoother than running a local event in Tallinn. But the most memorable moment was the awards ceremony on Day 2.

For the first time, we spoke in front of such a large audience—hundreds of people packed into the hall, watching as we recognized the top players in our favorite fighting games.

Even more important was the chance to share our passion for fighting games and encourage others to embrace them. We hope our message resonated because we have big ideas for improving tournaments and the console zone. We’re already excited for August to bring even more to the community!

Our Players
We can’t talk about Wintercon without highlighting our team’s incredible performance. Mr. Red performed exceptionally well in the Mortal Kombat 1 tournament, securing 5th place. What made it even more impressive is that he didn’t plan to participate at first but still delivered an outstanding performance that surprised everyone.
