About us
The 3te Gránátos Zászlóalj (3teGZ) is the only regiment in Australia/New Zealand that is based on a Regiment from the Austria Empire during the Napoleonic period. Our prefered faction in Mount & Blade Warband Napoleonic Wars is Austria & our in game class is the Grenaider Battalion Purcell (our skin pack renames it to Granatos Zasloalj Purcell Nr.3) & we train mostly in line formations, volly fire & melee. Although we are a Grenadier Regiment we never stray from playing as skirmishers, we even have a skin pack that changes the Austrian Jaeger to the Windbusche Jaeger (Air Rifle) & we have all our members download a crosshair to improve accuracy.

Our Regiments History

historically the 3teGZ was the 3rd Grenadier Battalion in the Austro-Hungarian regiment Nr.1 Császárok Ezred Purcell (1st Emporer's Regiment Purcell).
They were notorious for being absolutely merciless in hand to hand combat & caused several mass routs of French infantry in the battles of the 3rd coalition. The French were so frightened of them, that in the battle of Kosera Pass (in 1806) , a Frenchman in the ranks screamed (ce sont ces Hungarins de barrage au fil de vos vie) meaning (it's those dam Hungarins run for your lives)

The Hungarian Grenadiers were elite troops and most often were kept in reserve. They were used in decisive moments as a breakthrough force or to stabilize the wavering line. The grenadiers used bayonets on every possible occassion. In 1807 was issued order forbiding them to fight as skirmishers.

In 1809 at Aspern-Essling Napoleon ordered the Young Guard to recapture the village of Essling. Everybody knew what to expect as there were several battalions of Hungarian grenadiers. The Guard Tirailleurs "stopped the advance of Hungarian grenadiers" but their own impetus was also stalled. Napoleon supported the tirailleurs with Guard Fusiliers. Together they pushed the grenadiers out of village. The Guard however paid a heavy price, Generals Mouton, Gros and Curial were wounded. Approx. 41 % of rank and file were either killed or wounded. Such casualties had been enough to fill all their ambulances. The Young Guard was so enraged at the heavy losses that they bayoneted the wounded grenadiers.
