I think religion, though a positive force for some, is largely unnecessary in a modern society and due to differing beliefs, has an overall negative impact on society (hello wars).

What I mean is, there are plenty of very 'good' people in a religion, and it might help them 'stay good' and moral, merciful, forgiving, loving etc. For these people maybe religion is a good thing, as you need a Big Brother over your shoulder telling you what is right and wrong.

For many people though, it's another excuse to feel superior to people, to non-believers. Despite the best intentions, religious people eventually think they are the chosen, better than non-believers. It's how religion works.

It also doesn't help that in the major religions, they are told to evangelise and spread the word.

Fine. One is religious. Be happy. I have no problem.

You start preaching to me and judging me, prepare for a lecture in existentialism and all the logical flaws in religion.

I could write a lot more about this, but OP seems nice, and I am usually very confrontational, and I think Religion was taboo in FRC, so I will stop here.

Final remarks - religion has done a lot of good in the past, but modern society is moving away from it, it's a growing trend. There has to be a reason, right? Might have something to do with the never-ending conflicts amongst religions...

But I admire people with dedication and strong faith, who are 'good' and become 'better' with faith.

Well it's true there are some nasty chemicals involved in the manufacture of Solar PV panels and the extraction of precious metals.

Their carbon footprint is just a fraction of fossil fuels though, and that's what matters.
