the 1.9 update was the combat update. That is where vanilla started to go downhill in my opinion. While it may or may not be great for online pvp, it wasn't so great for survival. I am sure once microsoft bought mojang, they felt that they should work more on the multiplayer since that is hot in gaming right now. I also think they forget that minecraft has always been a grindy game. that is just part of the challenge.

I disagree, in my opinion the combat update makes the survival part more enjoyable much like it does with pvp and multiplayer. Even against mobs an atk speed mechanic makes more sense and makes the game less brain dead panic click spamming, sorta like how they fixed bows from being spam spam no aim.


Minecraft hasn't always been grindy, up until they added enchants the game was perfectly fine without being grindy, and better balanced then too, especially from a singleplayer aspect. Challenge is completely defeated even in the hardest difficulty once you have your protection IV diamond set, nothing not even a lava bath presented a threat and the notch apple provided nothing of benefit to singleplayer other than to make boss fights easy which again isn't a positive.

That is a good point. I think my opinion is based more off of mod pack gakeplay then just plain vanilla when it shouldn't be. I still prefer the old combat in vanilla, but it works just fine for the common mob.

Although I am also biased because I do not enjoy pvp.

honestly i missed the days when midnecraft was just overall more simplistic

having that calming music play while wandering in a cave, that feeling just isnt as special anymore to me

I hear you on that. sometimes I love just wandering around the biomes and exploring the randomly generated landscapes.
