I suggested a crowdfunding back in the days. Even though it's probably a bad idea, could use the donations on a TF2 server or whatever the group happens to want.

If you're able to transfer your winnings into real money, yes it's illegal. In order for it to qualify as fake gambling, it needs to be virtual currency and there can't be a way to build a black market around it. Generally trading skins for real money can't be legal either because skins are digital content owned by Valve, i.e. you end up selling stuff you don't own.

This is a huge black market and that's why I won't recommend it. Don't get involved in shady businesses like these, there may be consequences.

I suggested it a long time ago. With a fair $18/month. If every group member donated $0.05, that would already be over $25. Of course that isn't very realistic way of thinking, but rather interesting..
