Videogames you thought were going to be ♥♥♥♥, but wasn't.
What games you started off with the lowest expectations, but won you over?

Mines would be Portal. Don't like puzzle games, ignored all the gushing praise for it. Was part of the Orange Box and I thought I might as well give it a go. The humour won me over, as did the theme of you being the labrat in some mad scientist's experiment.

Half-Life 2. Expected it to be a boring game with scary zombies, turned out to be the greatest achievement of humanity.

There are video games that aren't shit?

Gears of War 4. I wasn't sure after Judgement if it would keep the terribly streamlined mechanics and I don't usually have high expectations for console series anyways. Gears 4 has a good PC port tho and similar feel to Gears 3 in terms of balance and mechanics.

After all the slack Watch_Dogs got, my expectations were low.

But hey! The combat is really fucking solid.

You die in 3 hits, so you need to be careful, but you can also hack through entire missions or stealth through entire missions.

And I had the best fun doing some stealth-to-a-point-when-it-goes-loud and hacking during the entire process
Monster Hunter 4U. I tried the demo and was bored and confused. Took a chance on the full game and now it's my second most played 3DS game.

The demo is shit, though.

Castlevania 2. Simons Quest. Oh, its not a classic or anything, but it's pretty fun for what it is. Aside from some particularly bad archaic designs.

Snoopy Concert. Its a Japanese-exclusive Peanuts game on the SNES. Its actually pretty good, too. The graphics are great in the sense that they look like The Peanuts (mostly the specials, not the comics), the soundtrack is catchy and the gameplay is good for what it is, as a somewhat simplistic Adventure Game.

Class of Heroes 2. The first Class of Heroes was a very, very disappointing game to me. It had a great concept, a "magical school" setting with hardcore Dungeon Crawling. Only problem was that it was to hard. I mean, I love hard dungeon crawlers but it was just unforgiving. We're talking "every random encounter is like a boss fight" hard. It was way to grind happy for me to enjoy. Class of Heroes 2 was still a very difficult game, but was balanced where I could actually enjoy the difficulty rather than spend hours farming. The localization sucked, though.

Hell yeah. I love MH4U but that demo was trash.

Civilization 5. Was a bit worried i wouldn't enjoy it because of my dislike towards strategy games.

Instead, the game had a charm i'm unable to describe that made me absolutely love it instead. I can't put my finger on it, but there's just something about it that makes me put it ahead of other games in it's genre.

Minecraft. Specifically modded minecraft. I was on that bandwagan that it was for kids and pretty fucking lame. But then I watched a few streamers play it and decided to try it for the hell of it. I have been hooked on tech mods ever since. I love the problem solving and the engineering of massive mechanical automating and the such.

Vanilla is pretty calming too.

Wish I could say the same about Civilization III, but that game does not hold up as well as II or IV.

Blood and Bacon, literally the only game I bought as a joke.
Turned out to be shit.
But golden, clean, smooth, god-worthy shit.

Honestly, not really.

Although, I do know one thing, I have Duke Nukem Forever in my library, and I have hopes it'll be decent.

I love DNF, more than Doom, Doom 2 and Final Doom. It was funny, had the best designed maps in any single-player game, and some great and inventive weapons (shrink ray, freeze gun). I have no idea if it holds up anymore, haven't played it in around a decade.

Oh, it's actually a good game hidden behind overhype to impossible levels? Nice, definitely looking forward to playing it.

Worth it, traded all my TF2 inventory for games, DNF included.
Dota 2. I though I'd hate it due to the notorius reputation its community has, but I actually kinda enjoy it.

Mass Effect.I hated 3rd person shooters, played gears of war at a friends, got it recently and I love it...
