Weird scam attempt?
So i had this guy messaging me saying i bought something from him and did not pay which i did not do, from a game i dont even have (rust). i told him i didnt buy him and showed him my market history as proof. then he requested for me to confirm my steam id because he reported my account and didnt want me to get banned. then he tried to get me to add steam support as a friend on steam to which i had enough of his antics and blocked him. i have screenshots of the whole conversation. is this some weird scam attempt? has anyone else experienced this?

Dude. It's so obvious im not even sure why you're asking. IT IS a scam. And an extremely common one to the point it's referenced in Steam's own documentation.

As long as youre not gullible enough to hand over information that could be used to hijacked your account. They are harmless. Have a laugh at them and block them.

It seems to be popular at the moment, catching lots of people out. Report and block.

I've never experienced it myself, but that's probably because I suspect every one :steamthumbsup:

Don't send the pictures of your private stuff, they probably saved it and will bug you again sometime on a new account to try to get more info.

They wanna steal your account.
