https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfAchfFXghc That's what the clippy movement is against.
- If you're against the right to own what you bought and paid for,
- If you're against the right to repair your own devices,
- If you're against the ability to modify your own property as you see fit,
- If you're against being able to opt-out of subscriptions as easily as you were able to opt-in,
- If you're against the right to privacy,
...if you're against those things (which are what the clippy movement is about)then you're one of the sheep.
- If you're you're in favor of companies changing EULAs and other agreements to hold ransom or steal your personal data from the cloud (like Adobe did when they decided to one day lock their customers out of their own projects until they agreed to allow their creations be fed into A.I. training data-sets),
- If you're in favor of companies updating firmware to brick your devices until you pay a subscription fee to use hardware that was working perfectly fine before the firmware update,
...if you're in favor of those things (which are what the clippy movement is against)then you're one of the sheep.
It's because people just accept orwellian surveillance and draconian laws and terms of service, clicking agree, maybe complaining a little, but continuing to give the same companies that are effing them over their money, that people are "sheep", not because people strategically coordinate rebellion together; sheep don't strategically coordinate.unless someone can tell me a better reason that's what I'm going with...
also did you hear meta are pirates?! :P
In the case that someone does ask me about the opinion I'll respond with quite an earful.
We shouldn't need these special club masks just so somebody out there can recognize there is a movement. Hit 'em hard in the not purchasing their nonsense department and make them wonder why, perhaps to investigate on their own rather than us shouting them down and looking hostile.
Regardless of that, Clippy is a pretty bad candidate for this sort of protest. They might mistake it for a compliment. this logo[commons.wikimedia.org] would probably actually have Microsoft sweating for what it represents...
Perhaps the answer is actually written out in a different reply on this thread.
Or you could google it.
Microsoft is barely a drop in the bucket, a grain of sand on the beach, in regards to what this movement is about.
The Clippy symbol is working to unite people and even has the symbol of linked paperclips. Many are saying :
📎 : Weak
🖇️ : Strong
Clippies together: 💪 Strong
It's a simple and fast visual symbol that's easy to remix to match your own personality (unlike that GNU ram) and quickly shows others who believe in this sort of thing how many people stand beside you.
And I also find it deeply amusing because Louis Rossmann got people to quite metaphorically turn themselves into paper clips, which is a funny and probably unintentional allusion to The Paperclip Maximizer[www.google.com] parable in A.I. safety - which is very similar to the Story of Turry, and The Stamp Collector, all of which are semi-plausible situations where unregulated capitalism and corporate greed gets so out of control that it leads to the extinction of all life on Earth -- the end-point of what will happen if we just keep accepting things which help corporations profit at the expense of human well-being and environmentalism.Relevant : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Dx76lD8Scc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncOdBhTI2t8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcdVC4e6EV4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxVXvFOPIyQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IV3dnLzthDA
